Mr. Michael Henchard Okai joined the Transparency International Chapter in Ghana (GII) in July 2014 as a Project Coordinator for a REDD+ Integrity project for a period of three years. Prior to GII, Mr. Okai worked as a District Customer Services Officer with the Forestry Commission for ten years. There, he championed Community Based Natural Resource Management particularly agroforestry, equity in benefit sharing and livelihood opportunities for forest fringe communities. Mr. currently coordinates GII’’s Land and Corruption in Africa (LCA) project in Ghana.
Mr. Okai holds a Master of Arts in Environmental Management and Policy from the University of Cape Coast and a BA Economics and Political Science from the University of Ghana. Mr. Okai also has a Diploma in Development Leadership obtained from the Coady International Institute in Canada and a Certificate in Socio – Economic and Political Challenges of Nature Conservation from the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies in Israel.
Mr. Okai’s responsibilities at GII include organising, coordinating and monitoring the Land Corruption in Africa Project by promoting women’s land rights and grievance redress mechanisms.
