Context and backgroundIn 2017 Mali developed a law recognizing the customary land rights of local populations called the "Loi sur le Foncier Agricole" (LFA, Farmland Land Law). This law was celebrated by rural populations, particularly farmers, who saw their family farms protected from state monopolization through incorporation into the private real estate domain of the state by means of registration. It was in this euphoria that the Land Law (LDF) was passed in 2020 by ordinance.

Vietnam is both at risk from and contributing to climate change. The country is the 17th largest emitter of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions globally, with emissions reaching around 300.4 MtCO2eq in 2020, increasing to 344 MtCO2eq in 2022, and is projected to further increase to 515.8 MtCO2eq in 2030. This report provides an overview of GHG emissions, assessment methods, data sources, and reporting processes in Vietnam with a focus on the agriculture, forestry, and other land use (AFOLU) sectors.

The Initiative for Climate Action Transparency (ICAT) project is a collaborative effort between the Alliance of Bioversity International and CIAT, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development in Kenya. The project aims to strengthen the capacity of the agriculture sector to implement, monitor, and report adaptation actions in a transparent manner at both national and county levels. To achieve this, the project has developed three training modules that will help to operationalize the CSA reporting tool for the agriculture sector.
