Ce document présente le rapport sur l'organisation de la production, de la multiplication et la distribution des semences de riz, de haricot et de soja dans les Etats membres de la Communauté Economique des pays des Grands Lacs.

This report exemplifies the short, well-focuses formal survey emphasized in CIMMYT's on-farm research procedures. The survey was done in northern Veracruz, Mexico, where CIMMYT Maize Production Training carries out on-farm experiments. The report summarizes farmers' circumstances, describes management practices in maize, and draws conclusions for research opportunities.

The report contains suggestions for a greater effort to be made in the understanding of the problems of agricultural development from the point of view, of the small, farmers and for a consequent reorientation of actions so that the relevant institutions would be able to serve the interests of the small farmers and the nation at large.

La seconde partie retrace succinctement l'historique, du point de vue institutionnel de la division mixte CEA/FAO de l'agriculture et xposse brièvement son programme de travail. The ECA/FAO Joint Agriculture Division has been requested to collaborate with the Industry and Housing Division in the preparation of a study on "industrialization and Economic Co-operation for the North African sub-region” by providing the relevant part of the study concerning "The Agricultural Sector, 1963-1980".
