This case study of a palm oil concession in Liberia highlights wider policy considerations regarding large-scale land acquisitions in the global South including the need for both formal mechanisms to ensure free, prior and informed consent; and rigorous environmental and social impact assessments before operations start.

China’s land policy has been in the news frequently over the last few weeks, since the Chinese government announced it will reform its land policy in the wake of the Third Plenum last November.

En el presente trabajo se realiza un análisis comparativo de la dinámica del pastoreo en dos comunidades de la puna o altiplano jujeño, a fin de identificar las diversas estrategias empleadas para reducir los riesgos y la incertidumbre asociada a la actividad pastoril. La comunidad de Lagunillas del Farallón se ubica en el extremo noroeste de la puna de la provincia de Jujuy, donde los pastores crían principalmente llamas y cabras con un sistema de rotación estival.

El objetivo del trabajo es examinar la revisión oficial de las “donaciones condicionadas” implementadas en el partido de Azul y la respuesta de la sociedad rural durante la segunda mitad del siglo XIX. Mediante un análisis principalmente cualitativo de la legislación, prensa, correspondencia, expedientes de tierras y otras fuentes coetáneas, se aborda el marco legal y el accionar social, considerando los argumentos esgrimidos para la puesta en valor de los derechos y el acceso a la propiedad formal.
