La caracterización de los sistemas agroforestales es una buena herramienta que en su momento proporciona elementos de análisis para la toma de decisiones en sistemas de uso del suelo. El objetivo de la investigación fue caracterizar los sistemas agroforestales de acuerdo a sus componentes (agrícola, forestal y pecuario) y al principal uso de las especies arbóreas en la comunidad El Limón, municipio de Paso de Ovejas, Veracruz.

Con este curso, se lograr dar un pleno conocimiento a los propietarios, administradores y empleados de proyectos forestales sobre los requisitos de los diez principios y criterios (P&C) de la certificación forestal FSCTM. EL FSC es la certificación con mayor éxito a nivel mundial y tiene características únicas, como por ejemplo que involucra terceras partes, los resultados son públicos entre otros e incluye temas ambientales, sociales yeconómicos.

La presente investigación tuvo por objeto analizar la organización social que existe en San Juan Evangelista Analco, Oaxaca para el manejo forestal comunitario. La compilación de datos se hizo mediante el uso de la “técnica etnográfica”, lo que hizo necesario aplicar técnicas de investigación de campo de tipo cualitativo, como la de “observación participante”, “genealogías” y “entrevistas”. Los resultados reflejaron que en la comunidad existe una organización comunitaria para la administración de los bosques basada en el capital social, que recae en el Comisariado de Bienes Comunales.

Los bosques ubicados al sur y oeste de la Ciudad de México son muy importantes para la recarga de mantos acuíferos que suministran agua a los habitantes de esta ciudad, pero se encuentran afectados por tala, incendios forestales, plagas, enfermedades y urbanización.

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India enacted the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, a tribal friendly legislation to address the historical injustice and critical issues, pertaining to the forest rights deprivation of the Forest Dwellers. To facilitate its implementation, FRA Rules, 2008 was framed and then made amendment to the Rules in 2012. However, several constraining factors and issues came to the notice in the implementation process of the Act in letter and spirit.

This annual progress report highlights key achievements and lessons learned of the “Grassroots Capacity Building for REDD+” project in the Asia‐Pacific region, between August 2011 and July 2012.

This assessment builds on existing data and analysis from two prior publications: From Exclusion to Ownership, which was published by the Rights and Resources Initiative (RRI) in 2008 and provided data for nine countries in Asia, and Tropical Forest Tenure Assessment – Trends, Challenges, and Opportunities, jointly published by RRI and the International Tropical Timber Organization in 2009 and 2011.

Priorities for protecting ecosystem services must be identified to ensure future human well-being. Approaches to broad-scale spatial prioritization of ecosystem services are becoming increasingly popular and are a vital precursor to identifying locations where further detailed analyses of the management of ecosystem services is required (e.g., examining trade-offs among management actions).

Forestry plantations should be regarded as an alternative sustainable land-use system in degraded savannah areas. They contribute to the maintenance of productive processes in degraded soils that are of economic importance for local inhabitants; in addition, in the ecological sense, timber and non-timber products from planted forests reduce the exploitation pressure on native forests. Eucalyptus plantations on degraded savannahs in the northern Brazilian Amazon may help to reduce exploitation pressure on native forests.

An international workshop on Forest and Land Tenure Reform was held in Vientiane on 28-29 August, 2012. The workshop was hosted by the National Assembly of Lao PDR, with support from RECOFTC – The Center for People and Forests through the Rights and Resources Initiatives (RRI).
