In this report the results of an independent assessment of the needs for capacity building for the development of community forestry in Indonesia, are presented. Needs were assessed at the level of the institutional context of community forestry development, key organizations and individuals. The team of 2 national consultants carrying out the assessment used the steps and methods of Capacity Building Needs Assesment (CBNA) procedures developed by RECOFTC.

The objective of this report is mainly to identify priority issues associated with community forestry in different contexts in Thailand, and based from this, analyze capacities of key community forestry stakeholders and come up with recommendations for RECOFTC's Thailand Country Program.

This guide intends to assist forestry lecturers in Southeast Asia in developing their forest policy curricula with a particular focus on policy analysis. As an initial step in this direction, it is hoped that lecturers will use the guide to tailor their courses to the specific requirements of their students whose experiences and lessons will be shared with others in the future; this will produce better grounded and more relevant sets of course materials and handouts in the future.

The Development Marketplace 2009 focused on adaptation to climate change. This paper identifies lessons from the Marketplace and assesses their implications for adaptation support. The findings are based on: statistical tabulation of all proposals; in-depth qualitative and quantitative analysis of the 346 semi-finalists; and interviews with finalists and assessors. Proposals were fuelled by deep concerns that ongoing climate change and its impacts undermine development and exacerbate poverty, migration and food insecurity.

Adaptation to climate impacts on groundwater resources in developed and developing countries has not received adequate attention. This reflects the often poorly understood impacts of climate change, the hidden nature of groundwater and the general neglect of groundwater management. Many developing countries are highly reliant on groundwater. Given expectations of reduced supply in many regions and growing demand, pressure on groundwater resources is set to escalate. This is a crucial problem and demands urgent action.

The climate change (CC) caused by increase in atmospheric concentration of CO2 and other Greenhouse Gases (GHGs), can be addressed through adaptation and mitigation strategies. Adaptation consists of strategies which minimize vulnerability to CC. The objective is to increase resilience of the ecosystems and communities through adoption of specific sustainable land management (SLM) techniques that have adaptive benefits. On the other hand, the goal of mitigation strategies is to enhance soil and vegetation (land) sinks for absorbing atmospheric CO2 and to minimize net emissions.

Esta tesis pretende, estudiar trabajos de la capacidad de fijación de carbono en los bosques naturales de la provincia de Esmeraldas así como investigar los instrumentos, los mecanismos y las políticas existentes en el país, proponer lineamentos adecuados en los ámbitos jurídicos, técnicos, operativos, económicos y sociales, con el objetivo de definir la posibilidad de generar un esquema de pagos por servicios ambientales por captura de carbono que pueda ser aplicado en el centro Chachi "El Encanto".

Amid heightened global uncertainties, Russia is experiencing a bumpy recovery. Domestic demand is rising, but unemployment remains high, and credit and investment remain limited. The budget has benefited from higher oil prices, but fiscal consolidation remains important in the medium term. The lowlands of the Caribbean slope of northern Costa Rica constitute one of the priority hotspots for biodiversity conservation in Mesoamerica.Nevertheless, the landscape has undergone a process of strong fragmentation that threatens its connectivity between protected areas in Costa Rica and southeastern Nicaragua.

RECOFTC's regional conflict study examines the drivers and impacts of forest conflict in eight cases in six countries. Findings were presented at the Collective Action, Property Rights and Conflict in Natural Resource Management research workshop in Siem Reap from 28 June - 1July 2010.

Với việc phần lớn diện tích rừng đã được người dân địa phương quản lý và sự tham gia sớm vào các sáng kiến Sẵn sàng REDD+, Việt Nam trở thành một nước tiên phong trên toàn cầu về hành động giảm thiểu tác động của biến đổi khí hậu dựa vào cộng đồng trong lĩnh vực lâm nghiệp. Tuy nhiên, để làm được điều này cần giải quyết một số vấn đề lớn. Trong bản tin này, chúng tôi thảo luận lý do tại sao sự tham gia tích cực của cộng đông địa phương và người dân bản địa mang tính cốt yếu cho REDD+ cũng như chỉ ra những thách thức cần phải vượt qua.
