Rice production is an integral commodity to global food security, but it also contributes considerably to greenhouse
gas emissions (GHG). There are a variety of options to mitigate GHG emissions from paddy rice production but the
impacts and opportunities to finance such activities are not well-known or well-understood for global investors, and
much remains to be done to ensure that international climate finance can be used to attract private sector

KEY MESSAGES
◼ Despite many available digital tools in the digital ecosystem, many neglect smallholders’ ranching. Also, they focus solely on performance indicators, lacking climate-informed agroecological features.
â—¼ Mitigation features are included only by performance assessment tools, although only by half of them.
â—¼ Adaptation features in digital tools include mitigation recommendations, access to pest and disease information or early warning, and product diversification.

A large proportion of farm households in developing countries face a host of market and production risks that undermine their food security, make their income volatile, and make them hesitant to adopt new technologies or undertake new investments that might increase their long-term productivity and household welfare. Climate-related risks such as floods and droughts remain some of the most pervasive forms of production challenges.

Estimating genetic gains is vital to optimize breeding programs for increased efficiency. Genetic gains should translate into productivity gains if returns to investments in breeding and impact are to be realized. The objective of this study was to estimate genetic gain for grain yield and key agronomic traits in pre-commercial and commercial maize varieties from public and private breeding programs tested in (i) national performance trials (NPT), (ii) era trial and, (iii) compare the trends with the national average.

This is a report on an innovation packaging exercise for the Munda makeover innovation. Munda makeover innovation packaging is being implemented by the Alliance of Bioversity International and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (ABC) and partners. It is part of the work under the Diversification in East and Southern Africa (Ukama Ustawi) Regional Integrated Initiative of the CGIAR.

This brief conducts benefit-cost analysis for key climate-smart practices to support agenda setting for the attainment of National mitigation targets under Nepal’s updated NDC and Net-Zero strategy.

Kenya therefore is of the view that the implementation of agriculture and food security issues in the Sharm -El Sheikh Joint Work on Implementation of climate action on agriculture and food security requires: enhance support of the means of implementation through coordinated actions, and partnerships that will support context-specific policies and measures, driven by science, and local and Indigenous knowledge.

In Sub-Sahara Africa agriculture is predominantly rainfed and faces several challenges due to unpredictable weather patterns and distribution that is amplified by climate change. The rising temperatures, changes in precipitation patterns, and increased frequency of extreme events contribute to the vulnerability of farmers as well as leading to crop failure, low yields, land degradation among others. These factors compound the difficulties for smallholder farmers, making it more challenging for them to produce adequate food to meet the demands of a growing population.

A study was conducted in Rwanda to identify and characterize different banana market segments, with a focus on cooking and dessert bananas. The goal was to generate production and market-related information to inform the development of banana target product profiles (TPPs) for Rwanda, which can support crop development programs and other actors in meeting the needs of different end-users such as farmers, processors, and consumers.
