Ditches and Water Courses Act (R.S.N.S. 1989, c. 132).

The present Act provides for agreements between land owners to build, widen or deepen ditches to remove run off from their properties. The agreements apply to new owners of the same lands until the municipally appointed engineer decides otherwise. The ditch cannot affect other owners’ lands without their consent. The Act provides dispute resolution mechanisms for disputes between owners who have entered into these agreements. The municipal clerk is the contact person in the case of disputes. The text consists of 28 sections and 1 Schedule.

Lease is temporary fee-based possession, use and management on contractual basis of land, other natural resources and property necessary to lessee for carrying out autonomously economic and other activity. The document consists of 4 sections that contain 32 articles. Section 1 (arts. 1-19) lays down general provisions. Section 2 (arts. 20-28) regards lease of enterprises. Section 3 (arts. 29-30) regards lease of property by citizens. Section 4 (arts. 31-32) regards dispute settlement and establishes liability of the subjects of lease relations.

This Proclamation lays down the regulatory framework for mining operations in Ethiopia. It defines the principles of sound development of the mining sector and defines the criteria for eligibility for mining rights, i.e. a prospecting licence, an exploration licence, an artisanal mining licence, a small-scale mining licence and a large-scale mining licence. A mining licence shall give the right to abstract, in limited quantities, mineral and geothermal water.Furthermore, the Proclamation defines the rights and duties of licence holders and provides for financial matters and administration.

Agricultural Tile Drainage Installation Act (R.S.O. 1990, c. A.14).

The present Act lays down provisions relating to the construction of drainage works, that is a drainage system constructed of tile, pipe or tubing of any material beneath the surface of agricultural land, including integral inlets and outlets, to improve the productivity of the land drained. According to section 2 no person shall carry on the business of installing a drainage work unless he or she is the holder of a licence released the Director.

The Act provides with respect to the amount of compensation payable for damage to agricultural crops and fruit trees. Where the damage amounts to total destruction, the compensation shall be calculated at the rates set out in the Schedule. If the damage is partial, the compensation shall be calculated on that proportion of the amount for total destruction directly attributable to the damage as may be determined by assessors appointed by the parties within four days of the occurrence of the damage.
