Soil salinity being a problem of irrigated agriculture reduces the productivity of agricultural land adversely. Detection of soil salinity by conventional means of soil survey requires a great deal of time, but remote sensing data and GIS techniques minimize time consuming and offer the possibility for monitoring and mapping salt affected land. This study assessed and digitally mapped out soil salinity level in Kampe – Omi between the periods of 10 years (2005 - 2014). After sampling and the surface electrical conductivity of the soil (EC) was determined for the samples.

Context and background Land grabbing has been in the news in Africa in recent years. Fertile land is increasingly falling into the hands of national or international private investors. Farmers with rudimentary means, youth, women, indigenous people, and pastoralists are the actors most affected by large-scale land grabs. In Cameroon, the pressure on wetlands, which cover nearly 70% of the national territory, appears to be increasing, whether for subsistence needs, firewood, grazing, logging or expansion of development projects. Currently, in terms of land use, forest has decreased by 619 km² and cultivated land has increased by 321 km². The surface area of degraded forests and land is estimated at around 12 million hectares, with a general trend towards an increase in the phenomenon due to both natural and anthropogenic factors.
