Farmer field days were held in Makueni and Kitui Counties to showcase performance of improved drought-tolerant crop varieties - pearl millet, sorghum, pigeon pea and beans - under conventional and conservation tillage systems. The events drew diverse stakeholders including government officials, agro-dealers, seed merchants, farmers' organizations and financial institutions. Through farm walks and interactive sessions, farmers gained firsthand insights into the comparative performance of crops under the two tillage systems gaining insights on crop management for improved yields.

In the developing world, the drivers behind changes in social ecological landscapes (SEL) are intricate and have been steadily intensifying over the years. Regions blessed with abundant natural resources, encompassing fertile soils, lush forests, freshwater bodies, valuable minerals, and more, tend to experience rapid population growth and heightened poverty rates.

A major challenge is how to create authentic information and innovations for agricultural extension in the digital age. It can be challenging for extension agents and agriculture extension workers to provide farmers with the knowledge and innovations they need given the limited resources available. Many development projects that were planned outside of the village turned out to be unfamiliar with its issues and needs, making them less effective in resolving the farmers' agricultural concerns, particularly those related to agricultural operations.

This series of socio-legal reviews summarizes the legal and policy documents related to women’s land tenure in seven countries: Kyrgyzstan, Uganda, The Gambia, Ethiopia, Niger, Bangladesh, and Colombia. These synthesis documents, part of the IFAD Initiative on Women’s Resource Rights, are designed for researchers and policymakers seeking to improve women’s land and resource rights in these target countries. The Climate-Smart Governance (CSG) Dashboard stands as an innovative platform, providing data on climate-related hazards, vulnerability, climate scenarios, and sector-specific information. Developed as part of the CGIAR initiative on Climate Resilience (ClimBeR), the CSG Dashboard plays a crucial role in supporting nations undertaking the UNFCCC National Adaptation Plan (NAP) process. Aligned with the iterative nature of the NAP process, the CSG Dashboard enhances adaptive capacity and resilience, minimizing vulnerability to climate change impacts.

The purpose of this brief is to identify and summarize the critical bottlenecks related to the policy and regulatory environment, infrastructure, and public services that constrain the expansion and diversification of Rwanda’s intra-regional trade and value addition. Unlike Africa’s trade with the rest of the world which mainly consists of primary commodities, intra-regional agricultural trade in the continent is heavily dominated by processed products.

This document is developed for facilitators and researchers/advisors who support the participatory evaluation of CS-MAP results at community level. It provides a basic framework to conduct a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with participation of farmers, extension workers and village leaders. The Guidelines only describe the 3-step process and simple tools that are commonly applied in the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) and Rural Rapid Appraisal (RRA). The process can be adjusted depending on local bio-physical and social conditions.

It is important to understand the extent to which improved participation of women in local resource governance institutions can improve or otherwise change the functioning of these groups and, ultimately, environmental and socioeconomic outcomes. To this end, we conducted an exploratory study in rural Malawi to identify potential units for a future experimental intervention focused on randomly encouraging the enforcement of gender quotas to increase women’s involvement in local-level forest management.

The current study shows the results of an assessment of the performance of the seed sector in Egypt. It elaborates bottlenecks and ambitions towards the development of a well-functioning seed sector that is innovative, competitive, resilient and inclusive. Since seed system configurations vary among crops groups and even crops, it zooms in on seed systems of cereals, food legumes and vegetables, and subsequently synthesizes seed sector challenges and ambitions at sector level.

Environmental factors determine the suitability of natural habitats for crop pests and often facilitate their proliferation and that of the crop diseases they carry. Crop pests and diseases damage food crops, significantly reducing yields for these commodities and threatening food security in developing, predominantly agricultural economies. Given its impact on environmental factors, climate change is an important determinant of crop pest and disease distribution.

This manuscript assesses how pastoralists adapt to climate change in achieving food security, with respect to the existing gender power relations in Tanzania. Although various studies have been conducted on climate change and gender, information with a strong focus on climate change adaptation strategies, food security and gender power relations, particularly in Tanzania, is scarce.
