Land Tenants (Security of Tenure) Act (Cap. 59:54).

This Act concerns rights of persons entitled in possession to land under a contract of tenancy whether express or implied. It provides protection of such rights. It does not apply to a tenancy of agricultural land.The Act provides for conversion of tenancies to which this Act applies subsisting immediately before the appointed day shall as from the appointed day in a statutory lease for the purposes of this Act. It also provides for an option to purchase the land under tenancy by the tenant.

Denerau (Nadi River) Development Decree 2011 (No. 3 of 2011).

This Decree concerns the development of the mouth of the Nadi River and upstream in the vicinity of Denarau as a tourist and travel destination and for this purpose provides for the cancellation of all leases, licence or other instrument of title relating to the area and vests any interest in the Director of Lands. The Decree also provides for use of the area and requires a permit to be obtained from the Minister for building activities.

Mahogany Industry Development Decree 2010 (No. 16 of 2010).

This Decree establishes the Mahogany Industry Council and provides for the continuation of the Fiji Mahogany Trust, which was established as a body corporate under section 5 of the Fiji Mahogany Act 2003 for the benefit of landowners and the Fiji Hardwood Corporation Limited, transformed into a privatised Company for the purposes of developing the mahogany industry in Fiji, including the harvesting and processing of mahogany forests.

This Law regulates the relationship between tenants and landlords in the State of Lagos and defines obligations and rights of landlords and tenants and powers and jurisdiction of court in matters regarding tenancy.A tenancy agreement shall for the purposes of this Law, be deemed to exist where premises are granted by the landlord to a person for value whether or not it is: (a) express or implied; (b) oral or written or partly oral or partly written; or (c) for a fixed period.

This Act provides for the administration, management and protection of state lands. It also provides that the dominion of the seashore lying between the high water mark and the low water mark belongs to and is vested in the State. The President may grant (a licence for) part of such land, and land reclaimed from the sea shall belong to and be vested in the State or the grantee.

This Act provides for matters relating to interests, i.e. perpetuities and accumulations in (immovable) property. It, among other things: provides for the vesting of the interests, duration, interests regarding (leases of) land, restrictions on accumulations in general, and restriction on accumulation for the purchase of immovable property.

The Act, for purposes of promoting security of tenure and facilitating access to land, protects squatters to which this Act applies from ejectment from State lands. The Act applies to squatters on state lands, squatters and tenants in designated areas and squatters and tenants occupying land of State Agencies listed in the Schedule (sect. 3). Section 4 protects squatters from ejectment from dwellings subject to sections 11 and 27. Section 11 provides for the granting of a certificate of comfort against ejectment. Such certificate does not constitute a title in land.
