La population du Sahara algérien continue, depuis plus d’un demi-siècle, à s’accroître plus rapidement que celle de l’Algérie du Nord. Plus d’un Algérien sur dix vit actuellement au Sahara, contre un sur quinze à la veille de l’Indépendance. Cette population est de plus en plus citadine et les villes importantes ne sont plus rares aujourd’hui au Sahara.

For over a century, energy multinationals have been wrecking the planet and exploiting people in pursuit of profit. Now, power producers and technology manufacturers are marketing themselves as ‘green’ to boost their reputation and benefit from public subsidies, grabbing lands, violating human rights and destroying communities along the way. Our investigation of fifteen ‘green’ multinationals conclusively shows that financial returns, not decarbonisation, is their primary business.

The baseline study aims to generate the baseline data on the Amahoro-at-Scale project’s main indicators, which will serve as reference for the mid-term and final evaluation. The baseline study should help set more realistic targets for the indicators. 

The Amahoro-at-Scale project is part of the larger LAND-at-Scale programme, funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and implemented by its Enterprise Agency (RVO).

La zona metropolitana de la Ciudad de México (ZMCM) es la obra más colosal que la nación ha construido en toda su historia. El objetivo general del escrito es analizar la estructura y dinámica macroeconómica de la ZMCM como diagnóstico que fundamente la elaboración de un Plan Multidimensional de Desarrollo de la Ciudad de México, 2020-2040. Específicamente, se determinaron las actividades manufactureras, comerciales y de servicios básicas para su desarrollo, así como las zonas dónde localizarlas e impulsarlas, lo que permitió delinear una estrategia macroeconómica intrametropolitana.

In the six months since the coronavirus began its global spread, more than 15 million people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and more than 600,000 have perished, causing governments around the world to institute lockdowns and shut down businesses while entire industries have been devastated.

This policy brief provides details of the United Nations Special Rapporteur recommendations regarding how governments can upgrade informal settlements within a human rights-based framework. A human rights-based approach will require that residents are ensured security of tenure over the land on which they live. States are legally required to set in motion policies and plans which have as their end goal the fulfilment of the right to adequate housing. Upgrading can reduce poverty, promote economic development and prosperity, and improve the health and well-being of residents.

With some of the earliest known human settlements in the world, most of Iraq together with Kuwait, eastern Syria and southeastern Turkey constitute Mesopotamia, also referred to by historians as the ‘cradle of civilization’. Iraq has a surface area of approximately 437,072 square kilometers, making it slightly larger than twice the size of Idaho. In late March, Indian Premier Narendra Modi imposed a three-week lockdown to prevent the further spread of the coronavirus. Since then, tens of thousands of migrant workers who had previously provided cheap labour in wealthy homes or on construction sites in the nation’s growing metropolises have been making their way back to their rural home regions.

A wide variety of settlement systems exist, ranging from small villages to large metropolises. However, spatial analyses are typically confined to the mere presence or absence of built-up land and the changes therein, while more subtle differences between various settlement systems are ignored. In this paper we study the spatial distribution of Chinese settlements in terms of their built-up land, cluster density and cluster size, as well as their changes between 1990 and 2010.
