The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

Regional Law No. 452-ZTO “On particulars of turnover of agricultural land”.

This Regional Law determines the particulars of legal relations concerning ownership, tenure and management of agricultural land that shall be based upon the following principle: preferential right of the regional administration to purchase of plots of agricultural land in case of sale thereof except for cases of public auction sale. Minimum consolidated agricultural land plot that can be allotted to natural person shall be 0, 1 ha.

This Law regulates the establishment, internal organization, activities and primary objectives, financing, administration rules and physical registration of local communities in the Brcko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina.The provisions of this Law are aimed to correctly deregulate the status and functioning of the local community management, including its related activities and interest sectors.The Law is divided into 8 Chapters and 31 articles, including offences and related penalties.

Regional Law No. 741 “On land reclamation”.

This Regional Law establishes legal grounds in the sphere of land reclamation ensuring efficient land tenure and protection of drained land. The scope of land reclamation shall be to improve productivity and sustainability of agriculture, stable agricultural production on the basis of conservation and improvement of soil fertility and involvement of unused and low-productive land in agricultural production. Land reclamation shall be classified as follows: (a) hydrotechnical amelioration; (b) agroforestry; (c) land clearance operations; and (d) chemical amelioration.

The scope of this Regional Law shall be to regulate social relations in the sphere of historical and cultural heritage, ensuring access thereto of citizens and conservation and promotion of historical and cultural habitats of the regional population. Objects of cultural heritage shall be classified as federal, regional and local (municipal). Cultural heritage on the regional territory shall be subject to mandatory registration and conservation. Objects of historical and cultural heritage shall include urban areas and landscapes, protected areas and urban parks and gardens.
