The main reason and the purpose of the National Forest Programme is harmonisation with other national policies and international commitments, and thus to contribute to an important segment of the sustainable development strategy in the country.Chapter 4 lays down provisions relating to the Vision and the essential objectives of the present Programme.

The main objective of the present Forest Policy is enhancing the contribution of the forests to the national economy and the welfare of the current and future generations, taking into account the preservation of the biodiversity. Three goals of equal weight are contained in the main objective, namely: 1) Economic goal: Forests will be used efficiently and in a sustainable manner in order to enhance the contribution of the sector to the national economy, including foreign currency, government income, and employment.

The vision of the present Scottish Forestry Strategy is that by the second half of this century, people are benefiting widely from Scotland’s trees, woodlands and forests, actively engaging with and looking after them for the use and enjoyment of generations to come. The forestry resource has become a central part of culture, economy and the environment.

The National Forest Strategy's vision is that sustainable forest management is a source of growing welfare. With this vision as its starting point, the Government Report on Forest Policy sets the following strategic objectives: 1) Finland is a competitive operating environment for forest-based business; 2) Forest-based business and activities and their structures are renewed and diversified; 3) Forests are in active, economically, ecologically and socially sustainable and diverse use.

These Regulations make provision in Northern Ireland for the administration and enforcement of compliance of farmers with standards regarding "good agricultural and environmental condition" as expressed by Regulation (EU) No. 1306/2013, Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) No 640/2014 and Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No 809/2014. These Regulations concern a direct support schemes under the Common Agricultural Policy.

The Third Generation Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper is a cross-sectoral national strategic document of Sierra Leone in force during 2013-2018. Its main objective is to achieve a robust and consistent level of high economic growth and to maintain significant progress on governance indicators together with sustained improvements in human development indicators for its citizens.The Paper provides for various measures in order to increase the production of staple food crops for food security. These measures mainly concentrate on agricultural development and are summarized below.

The National Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change is a cross-sectoral strategic document adopted by the Ministry of the Environment to respond to the broader goals set out in the adaptation strategy package approved by the European Commission in 2013, with the aim of making Europe better prepared to withstand existing and future climate impacts.

These Regulations further implement in Scotland the requirements of Council Directive 91/676/EEC concerning the protection of waters against pollution caused by nitrates from agricultural sources by designating the revised vulnerable zones in accordance with Article 3(4) of the Directive. Under Article 3(1) of the Directive, Member States are required to identify waters affected by pollution and waters which could be affected by pollution in accordance with the criteria set out in Annex 1 to the Directive.

Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) affects more than 3.5 people in the developing world. More than half of pregnant women (56 percent) and 44 percent of nonpregnant women are anemic (ACC/SCN 2000). IDA contributes to approximately 20 percent of maternal deaths in Africa and Asia (Ross and Thomas 1996). In Africa alone, some 20,000 maternal deaths per year could be prevented with anemia treatment.

Water, sanitation, and hygiene can have a profound effect on health and nutrition. A growing base of evidence on the link between sanitation, child height, and well-being has come at an opportune time, when the issue of sanitation and nutrition in developing countries has moved to the top of the post-2015 development agenda.

Institutions of collective action and systems of property rights shape how people use natural resources, and these patterns of use in turn affect the outcomes of people’s agricultural production systems. Together, mechanisms of collective action and property rights define the incentives people face for undertaking sustainable and productive management strategies, and they affect the level and distribution of benefits from natural resources.

How can family farmers best contribute to their country’s agriculture needs as well as broader development goals? First, we should determine which farmers can be profitable and assist them in doing so. Second, for those who aren’t profitable, we need to help them shift to other economic pursuits.
