New agribusiness investments mean wholesale sell-out for women farmers

Reports & Research
Noviembre, 2010
África

Globalisation impacts on local land markets and land-use, land transaction costs affect food prices, and the combined effect is particularly damaging to women who produce food and put food on the table for their families. Article examines what is attracting investors and market speculators into the farm and land sectors; what is at stake for small farmers – especially women farmers – and long-term impacts for food production and food security; and what action is needed to enable women to secure access to natural resource and land assets for current and future generations?

The handbook introduces key economic and related concepts explaining the functioning of urban land markets. By introducing key classical economic concepts, the handbook provides foundational economic terms that are often referred to in relation to urban land markets. In doing this, we do not imply that African land markets should or ought to 'fit' into neo-classical economic theories, nor do we propose that 'perfect' markets exist.

PROJETO E GESTÃO NA METRÓPOLE CONTEMPORÂNEA – Um estudo sobre as potencialidades do instrumento operação urbana consorciada à luz da experiência paulistana

Agosto, 2010
Brasil

Coordination and allocation on land markets under increasing scale economies and heterogeneous actors - An experimental study

Conference Papers & Reports
Abril, 2010

Economies of scale and scope are often not exploited in Western agriculture. A general reason is probably that various types of transaction costs limit coordination among farmers. A more specific explanation is that coordination on land markets or machinery cooperation is difficult to achieve when farmers are heterogeneous as some kind of price differentiation is necessary for a Pareto-superior solution. This paper investigates experimentally such a coordination game with heterogeneous agents using an example inspired by agricultural land markets.
