Water scarcity is considered to be one of the largest threats for many parts of Africa. Under water scarce conditions reducing the consumption of water and preventing pollution of accessible water resources is essential. Combating water scarcity in both dimensions of quality and quantity is of special relevance for the LNV priority regions (including those in Water Mondiaal). Future LNV policies to address food security in Africa will affect the use, spread and fate of agrochemicals as well.

Het doel van dit onderzoek is voor het Planbureau voor de Leefomgeving het actualiseren van een landelijke grondprijskaart 2001 en een landelijke eigendomskaart 2004. Om te komen tot een landelijke eigendomskaart hebben we diverse bronbestanden verzameld en bewerkt. De gegevens van het Kadaster zijn het meest voor de hand liggende bronbestand, maar deze kwamen door de hoge verstrekkingskosten niet in beeld voor dit project.

Sinds 2007 is het Investeringsbudget Landelijk Gebied (ILG) het nieuwste wapen in de strijd tegen vastgelopen beleidsprocessen en bureaucratisering in het plattelandsbeleid. Decentralisatie van instrumenten en geld naar provincies, zevenjarige prestatiecontracten en meerjarenprogramma’s moeten de uitvoering van dit beleid stimuleren. As a quickly growing regional capital located in the Mediterranean littoral vineyard area, the city-region of Montpellier has recently constituted itself as a new local authority gathering 31 municipalities (Communauté d’Agglomération). Working out the territorial coherence scheme (Scot) was a priority step to structure the development project of this new territory, combining urban and rural dimensions.

Land degradation is continuing to occur in many different environmental conditions. This is because land use choice in a particular area always goes beyond the capability and suitability of that area for such type of land use. Traditionally, land use choice depends very much on the criteria used, but in essence it should embrace three different and sometimes conflicting aspects: productivity, workability and the environment. The decision criteria derived from environmental attributes that represent degradation potential will become important determinants for sustained use of the land.

Ruimtelijke kwaliteit is een containerbegrip met vele betekenissen, variërend in tijd, plaats, belang en schaalniveau. Iedereen interpreteert het begrip anders, en daardoor heeft het weinig of geen bindende werking meer in gebiedsontwikkelingsprocessen. Ook al worstelen we met het begrip, het krijgt tegelijkertijd veel aandacht van ruimtelijke planners, niet in de laatste plaats vanuit het normatieve uitgangspunt dat de kwaliteit moet verbeteren. In dit boek wordt het begrip ruimtelijke kwaliteit opnieuw gedefinieerd en hanteerbaar gemaakt voor toepassing in gebiedsontwikkeling.
