Effect of planting density on growth, production and quality of five accessions of hot pepper (Capsicum spp.) in the Colombian Western Amazon

Journal Articles & Books
Colombia

The genus Capsicum belonging to Solanaceae family enjoys favorable conditions for successful development in the Colombian Amazon. Five accessions of the Germplasm collection of Amazonian Capsicum of the Institute SINCHI were selected for their high pungency to study the growth, development and the effect on the patterns of interception of photosynthetic active radiation (PAR), production and quality of fruits under three planting distances (50, 60 and 70 cm between plants). For this purpose, an experiment was conducted in field conditions in Florencia, Caqueta.

Several cassava genotypes were observed although there were few bred varieties. The wide diversity in the cassava landraces was a consequence of the action of the farmers in continuously abandoning and introducing cultivars into their system as they tried to select those cultivars that met their needs. These included extended in ground storability in remote areas, high lOOt yield, and earliness in high demographic pressure areas, low cyanogen level in specific areas where the sweet cassava type was needed, as well as their needs for pests/disease tolerance, and good processing qualities.

Participation, Innovative Approaches and Customary Cadastres: A Practical Experiment in Nanton, Ghana

Conference Papers & Reports

The dearth of land information on customary lands limits the development and application of land consolidation. This paper presents and discusses the results of an experiment carried out to test the potential of participatory land administration applied on customary lands in support of land consolidation. The concept of Participatory Land Administration (PLA) which is developed in the context of the evolution of crowdsourced, volunteered, and participatory approaches provides new insights into neogeography and neocadastre, and fit-for-purpose and pro-poor land administration.

Emerging conflict in collaborative mapping: Towards a deeper understanding?

Journal Articles & Books

In spatial planning and environmental management, maps are found very helpful in many situations, but in other situations they may also deepen conflicts or be ignored. This paper addresses the question what explains such phenomena, with particular emphasis on, and reference to, collaborative policymaking settings in the Netherlands. We have elaborated the concept of ‘frames’ and ‘framing’ to structure and analyze the function of maps in the context of deliberative policymaking.

State of the world's forests 2012

Journal Articles & Books
Global

As the global community looks for ways to move to a greener economy, it is increasingly clear that forests, forestry and forest products must play a central role. This tenth edition of State of the World’s Forests explores the role of forests in human history, finding strong links between forest use and economic and social development and between unabated forest destruction and economic decline. It suggests that forest production has an important role to play in a sustainable future in which consumption and production are connected in a closed cycle.
