The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

Decree No. 98.502 approving a protective plan for native people "Yanomami" lands.
This Decree approves a protection plan for native people "Yanomami" lands. It consists of 5 articles approving the aforementioned plan for the evacuation of occupants from Yanomami's lands. The plan specifies administrative and legal procedures in order to carry out this activity and to adopt a sanitary program for native people's health. Controls and sanctions for offenders shall be regulated by central and local police services.
Ordonnance nº 98-520 relative à l'action foncière, aux offices d'intervention économique dans le secteur de l'agriculture et de la pêche et à l'aide au logement dans la collectivité territoriale de Mayotte.
Cette ordonnance ouvre un droit de préemption à la collectivité territoriale de Mayotte sur l'ensemble du territoire de la collectivité, à l'exception de la zone des cinquantes pas géométriques. Ce droit est transféré, pour une durée ne pouvant dépasser les cinq ans, au Centre national pour l'aménagement des structures des exploitations agricoles (CNASEA).

Cette loi porte réforme de la réglementation comptable et l'adaptation du régime de la publicité foncière. A cette fin, la loi modifie plusieurs articles du Code civil, notamment les articles 2148, 2134, 2152, 2201 et 2203-1. Elle modifie aussi certains articles du décret nº 55-22 portant réforme de la publicité foncière, et notamment les articles 9, 26, 33 et 34.
