Agriculture in the Republic of Moldova has been facing a number of challenges in recent decades, caused by both traditional agricultural practics and effects of climate change. Growing environmental issues, like soil degradation, water pollution, reduced biodiversity, require re-evaluating current agricultural methods.

A new wave of agricultural commercialisation is being promoted across Africa’s eastern seaboard;by a broad range of influential actors – from international corporations to domestic political and business elites. Growth corridors;linking infrastructure development;mining and agriculture for export;are central to this;and are generating a new spatial politics as formerly remote borders and hinterlands are expected to be transformed through foreign investment and aid projects.

This primer provides an introduction to some of the key issues that arise in the negotiation of contracts linked to investments in agriculture, and practical guidance for how to approach common issues. First, it outlines the typical goals of three important stakeholders – the government, companies, and communities who live on or near land on which a project will take place – along with the risks that each type of stakeholder faces. The Agriculture Census 2019, the sixth in its series, is an agricultural statistical venture of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS). Not only has Bangladesh recorded persistent economic growth of 7.86 to 8.13%, but it has also achieved a substantial reduction in poverty rate. Bangladesh retains a strong commitment to social cohesion and to a progressive development agenda. The Lands Act 1964 was the first comprehensive piece of legislation which came into existence to pave the way for land reform. Key objectives of the Act were a) enhancing the standard of living of people dependent on land including through ensuring “equitable distribution of agricultural land”; and b) securing rapid economic development and wellbeing of the general population through attaining optimum agricultural growth.
