The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

An Act to provide for the sustainable use of land and natural resources on it.The text of Part I consists of 18 sections divided into 7 Chapters: Purposes of the Act (I); Application sphere of the Act (II); Land use authorities in municipalities and counties (III); Protection of cultivation and arable land (IV); Partition of agricultural land (V); Expropriation and valuation (VI); Miscellaneous provisions (VII).Chapter IV provides for the protection of agricultural use of land and the protection of agricultural land against misuse by men.

In accordance with the division of the State into (a) Eastern and Central Division; and (b) Western Division, the Act makes provision for the administration and management of Crown land in the Eastern and Central Division of the State. Main object of this Act is to provide for: (a) a proper assessment and management of Crown land; (b) the development and conservation of Crown land; (c) the reservation or dedication of Crown land for public purposes; (d) the collection, recording and dissemination of information relevant to the above.
