Graph-based analysis is a promising approach for analyzing the functional and structural connectivity of landscapes. In human-shaped landscapes, species have become vulnerable to land degradation and connectivity loss between habitat patches. Movement across the landscape is a key process for species survival that needs to be further investigated for heterogeneous human-dominated landscapes.
Comparison of Different Mapping Techniques for Classifying Hyperspectral Data
Hyperion is a space borne sensor which provides powerful tool in discriminating land cover features including urban area and in preparation of urban maps. It gives hyperspectral images in 242 bands within 400 nm to 2,500 nm wavelength range with 10 nm band-width. The Hyperion image in raw form is badly affected with several atmospheric effects which cause haziness. In this study hyperspectral image is atmospherically corrected by using FLAASH model of ENVI.
Do Property Rights Matter for Conservation? Family Land, Forests and Trees in Saint Lucia, West Indies
Property rights are a central topic in conservation debates, but their influence on environmental outcomes is rarely carefully assessed. This study compared land use, tree planting practices and arboreal vegetation on government, estate private, smallholder private and communal “family” lands in Saint Lucia. The influence of tenure was apparent, but overall not a strong predictor of either farmer practices or vegetation characteristics. Higher abundance of planted trees on smallholder private lands was offset by greater abundance of natural forest trees on estate and family lands.

I consider Paul Thompson’s Agrarian Vision from the perspective of the philosophy of technology, especially as it relates to certain questions about public engagement and deliberative democracy around food issues. Is it able to promote an attitudinal shift or reorientation in values to overcome the view of “food as device” so that conscientious engagement in the food system by consumers can become more the norm?
Integrating geospatial and ground geophysical information as guidelines for groundwater potential zones in hard rock terrains of south India
The increasing demand of water has brought tremendous pressure on groundwater resources in the regions were groundwater is prime source of water. The objective of this study was to explore groundwater potential zones in Maheshwaram watershed of Andhra Pradesh, India with semi-arid climatic condition and hard rock granitic terrain. GIS-based modelling was used to integrate remote sensing and geophysical data to delineate groundwater potential zones.
