The paper looks at efforts being taken by the Ministry of Lands and Valuation in Malawi towards developing a Land Information System which would not only act as the basis for all future land related projects, but will provide the basic data for the review of the National Land Policy currently being undertaken by Government.

This paper seeks to understand how market imperfections affect the behavior of consumers in China's rural economy. A theoretical and empirical model is developed and estimated using a household-level data from six counties in Hebei Province. The results show that market development plays an important role in explaining food consumption behavior in China. As the market develops, farmers demand less grain and vegetables and consume more meat, fruit, and other food products after control for income and price effects.

Het oorspronkelijke verkavelingspatroon van lintbebouwing met smalle lange tuinen vormt veelal een beperking voor een doelmatige bedrijfsinrichting. Gebleken is dat een deel van de tuinders desondanks bedrijven heeft opgebouwd die een bestaansbasis vormen voor een aantal medewerkers. Het merendeel van hen wil het intensieve bedrijf in het gebied blijven uitoefenen.

Je voudrais traiter l'exploitation minière comme le mécanisme propre à stimuler le développement économique national.

The aim of this report is not to raise and analyze the various constraints facing the development of river and lake basins but merely to assess the programme of our organizations set up over decades. Indeed, time available for drafting this report and the data available to us did not allow scrutinizing certain issues relating to the development of river and lake basins. This report made use of data contained in another report prepared in 1989 and supplemented by other data gathered in the process of drafting this report.
