Exploring opportunities for scaling of sustainable intensification interventions through farmer engagement and positive deviance approach: A case for Basona Worena, Ethiopia

декабря, 2022
Ethiopia

In Ethiopia, much like in several other African nations, the availability of food relies significantly on a large number of smallholder farmers. These farmers, confronted with various environmental obstacles, are experiencing substantial pressure to maintain and improve food production in order to ensure a stable food supply, particularly in light of the anticipated population growth across the continent.

Stability-and-peace accelerator: concept note

декабря, 2022
Global

For the 1.5 billion people living in Fragile and Conflict Affected Settings (FCAs), livelihood challenges and rising food, fertilizer, and input prices are compounded by climate change, unsustainable resource consumption, poor governance, and weak social cohesion. Economic disruptions, such as those caused by COVID-19 and the war in Ukraine, are sparking the risk of food and nutrition crises and poverty and conflict traps.

Do needs motivate the exchange of data in transboundary waters? Insights from Africa’s shared basins

декабря, 2022
Global

Despite widespread recognition of the importance of data exchange in transboundary waters’ management, there is growing evidence that data exchange is falling short in practice. A possible explanation may be that data exchange occurs where and when it is needed. Needs for data exchange in shared waters, nonetheless, have not been systematically assessed. This paper evaluates data exchange needs in a set of transboundary basins and compares such needs with evidenced levels of data exchange.

Uncovering the intersection of women’s empowerment and gender equality for climate adaptive capacities in climate hotspots in Zambia

декабря, 2022
Zambia

Women in agrifood systems in low- and middle-income countries are more likely than men to be adversely affected by climate change. They also have more limited climate-adaptive capacities due to socioeconomic and cultural factors, such as restricted access to resources, information and technology, discriminatory gender norms, and limited decision-making power.

Gender and climate-resilient agriculture: A review of concepts and practical resources in support of gender-transformative change

декабря, 2022

To advance the use of gender-transformative approaches in climate-resilient agriculture (CRA), a review of practical resources that could support researchers and practitioners in applying gender and CRA was undertaken. The review consolidates and assesses diverse, practical resources—including research tools, methods and broader guidance—that aim to address gender inequalities/inequities, climate and agriculture, albeit to varying degrees.

Synthesis of baseline GHG emission data and estimation methods in aquatic food systems in Vietnam

декабря, 2022
Malaysia

Drawing data and information from desk-based reviews, key informant interviews, and group discussions with relevant stakeholders in Vietnam, this working paper compiled and analyzed emission baseline data of greenhouse gas (GHG) from Vietnamese aquatic food systems, focusing on key aquaculture systems of fish, crustaceans, mollusks, and seaweed, together with capture fisheries and post-harvesting and processing of aquatic foods.
