Familiarization Field Trip to CCARDESA GCCA + Project in Katapazi Camp, Mungala Village under Chief Mukuni of Southern Province, Zambia

декабря, 2022
Zambia

The purpose of the familiarization tour was to interact with the farmers who are implementing a community led solar powered irrigation scheme and appreciate what the CCARDESA project is implementing and the existing conditions and facilities available in Katapazi agricultural camp. The report also aims to document the findings, observations, and recommendations related to the implementation and impact of drip irrigation on crop yield, water conservation, and farmer livelihoods.

How using weather and climate information services may impact farm productivity and technical efficiency: Evidence from cowpea and sesame producers in Burkina Faso

декабря, 2022
Burkina Faso

Weather and climate information services (WCIS) are recognized as a powerful tool to support the management of climate risk in the context of climate variability. However, the picture of its value for agriculture is not yet well evaluated. This study used the Average Treatment Effect (ATE) framework to assess the impact of WCIS use on yield, income and technical efficiency of

Impacts of small-scale irrigation on farmers’ livelihood: evidence from the drought prone areas of Upper Awash Sub-Basin, Ethiopia

декабря, 2022
Ethiopia

Irrigation is an important mechanism to mitigate risks associated with the variability in rainfall for the smallholder subsistence farming system. This study analyzed how practicing small-scale irrigation (SSI) impacts the key livelihood assets on farm households’ human, physical, natural, financial, and social capitals in Ethiopia’s upper Awash sub-basin. The household-level survey data, collected from the 396 sample households, was used to carry out the current study. A Propensity Score Matching (PSM) analytical model was applied to match the SSI user and nonuser groups.

Enhanced capacity of women in using climate smart agriculture technologies

декабря, 2022
Global

On March 14th in Siramana and March 19th in Selingue, two workshops were held to enhance women's skills in climate smart agriculture technologies. The workshops focused on Smart-Valleys approach for water control in inland valleys, alternate wetting and drying for producing rice with less water and greenhouse gas emissions in irrigated systems, and improved access to input, information, and markets using multiple stakeholders' platforms.

CGIAR Initiative on Agroecology

декабря, 2022
Global

Agroecology is a transdisciplinary, participatory, and action-oriented approach aimed at enhancing food system resilience, equity, and sustainability. It forms part of CGIAR’s 2022-2024 Research Portfolio,
delivering science and innovation to transform food, land, and water systems in a climate crisis.

Smart-Valleys innovation catalogue

декабря, 2022
Global

An innovation brief has been developed to facilitate the scaling of the Smart-Valleys approach for land and water development in inland valleys. The innovation brief presents how to implement the Smart-Valleys approach and its effects on rice yield and farmers’ income, as well as the users and the factors that affect the adoption of the approach.

Evaluation of the Impact of No-Till on Soil Erosion using Soil Aggregate Stability and Fallout Radionuclides in Northern Morocco

декабря, 2022
Bahrain

The aim of this work is to assess the impact of no-till based cropping system on soil erosion using two indicators. The experiment plot was under no-tillage (NT) for four years, adjacent to a plot under conventional tillage (CT) with same other management practices. The two used indicators are Le Bissonnais soil aggregates’ stability test and the activities of the fallout radionuclides (FRN) Be and Cs.

Foresight Partnership Forum: Forum report

декабря, 2022

Background | The challenges facing food, land, and water systems are numerous and complex. In addressing these interlinked challenges, the choices facing governments and their development partners have also become increasingly complicated. Synergies are possible, but trade-offs are often unavoidable. Decision-makers need better evidence to help them choose actions that minimize trade-offs and advance progress towards collective goals.

Farmer-Fulani pastoralist conflicts in Northern Ghana: are integrated landscape approaches the way forward?

декабря, 2022
Bahrain

Over the past 20 years, recurrent and violent conflicts between farmers and Fulani pastoralists have persisted in Northern Ghana. These conflicts mainly revolve around access to and utilisation of natural resources such as land and water. Conflicts of interest have led to the social marginalisation of the Fulani community, leading to their exclusion from formal landscape governance processes.

Agricultural emissions reduction potential by improving technical efficiency in crop production

декабря, 2022
Global

CONTEXT: Global and national agricultural development policies normally tend to focus more on enhancing farm productivity through technological changes than on better use of existing technologies. The role of improving technical efficiency in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction from crop production is the least explored area in the agricultural sector. But improving technical efficiency is necessary in the context of the limited availability of existing natural resources (particularly land and water) and the need for GHG emission reduction from the agriculture sector.

Leveraging the energy transition for gender-equitable growth in rural livelihoods

декабря, 2022
Global

Agriculture in India contributes close to 20% of GDP and employs 44% of the workforce. Of these agricultural workers, 55% are women, and this percentage is likely to increase as women have fewer opportunities than men to find non-farm jobs. On top of that, women face significantly more barriers and constraints in accessing natural resources such as water and land because – despite significant legal and social efforts – the land rights of women are not widely acknowledged.
