What is AGRIS?

AGRIS (International System for Agricultural Science and Technology) is a global public database providing access to bibliographic information on agricultural science and technology. The database is maintained by CIARD, and its content is provided by participating institutions from all around the globe that form the network of AGRIS centers (find out more here).  One of the main objectives of AGRIS is to improve the access and exchange of information serving the information-related needs of developed and developing countries on a partnership basis.

AGRIS contains over 8 million bibliographic references on agricultural research and technology & links to related data resources on the Web, like DBPedia, World Bank, Nature, FAO Fisheries and FAO Country profiles.

More specifically

AGRIS is at the same time:

A collaborative network of more than 150 institutions from 65 countries, maintained by FAO of the UN, promoting free access to agricultural information.

A multilingual bibliographic database for agricultural science, fuelled by the AGRIS network, containing records largely enhanced with AGROVOCFAO’s multilingual thesaurus covering all areas of interest to FAO, including food, nutrition, agriculture, fisheries, forestry, environment etc.

A mash-up Web application that links the AGRIS knowledge to related Web resources using the Linked Open Data methodology to provide as much information as possible about a topic within the agricultural domain.

Opening up & enriching information on agricultural research

AGRIS’ mission is to improve the accessibility of agricultural information available on the Web by:

  • Maintaining and enhancing AGRIS, a bibliographic repository for repositories related to agricultural research.
  • Promoting the exchange of common standards and methodologies for bibliographic information.
  • Enriching the AGRIS knowledge by linking it to other relevant resources on the Web.

AGRIS is also part of the CIARD initiative, in which CGIARGFAR and FAO collaborate in order to create a community for efficient knowledge sharing in agricultural research and development.

AGRIS covers the wide range of subjects related to agriculture, including forestry, animal husbandry, aquatic sciences and fisheries, human nutrition, and extension. Its content includes unique grey literature such as unpublished scientific and technical reports, theses, conference papers, government publications, and more. A growing number (around 20%) of bibliographical records have a corresponding full text document on the Web which can easily be retrieved by Google.

Influence of different agro technologies on formation of water regime, crop productivity, ecological-energetic and economic efficiency of wheat crops in the steppe and forest-steppe zones of the Russian plain

Journal Articles & Books
декабря, 2018
Russia

There is considered a problem of calculating the increase in water availability and productivity of agro-ecosystems through the use of mulching and reduced (minimum) soil tillage as well as predicting the mulching efficiency in various natural conditions. The model of heat-moisture exchange was used in the agro-ecosystems allowing the water balance dynamics in the root zone.

The scope of export-import operations with food goods (FG) and agricultural feedstock (AF) in 2012-2017 is estimated and the volume of output of the main kinds of agricultural products by 2020 by the EEU countries is forecasted. It is shown that from 2012 till 2016 the scope of export, import, goods turnover and trade balance of FG and AF have reduced from 17871.0; 44363.7; 62234.7 and -26492.7 mln dol to 16941.2; 26491.6; 43432.8 and -5411.4 mln dol, respectively. The mutual trade of FG and AF for the same period reduced 8058.3 to 6847.3 mln dol.

Ukraine

Taking into account the development of the market for energy crops and biofuels, the work substantiates the need to develop comprehensive public policy measures that will take into account the various functions of land resources (economic, environmental and social), as well as their role in the formation of energy resources in rural areas. The positive impact of the use of energy crops as raw materials for the production of biofuels on the conservation of ecosystems and the solution of issues concerning pollution and minimizing the trend of global warming was theoretically justified.

Dynamics of the plant community and microbiom of chrono-series of post-technological soil in limestone quarry in the conditions of recultivation

Journal Articles & Books
декабря, 2018
Russia

Post-technogenic ecosystems represent informative natural models of initial pedogenesis and restoration under the abandoned and reclamation practices. The purpose of this study conducted in one of the largest limestone quarries of Leningrad region was to examine successions of plant and microbial communities. Species composition and vegetation cover were estimated for different plant communities within each ecotype of quarry.

Formation of sustainable land-use systems in erosion dangerous landscapes

Ukraine

During the last 50 years the humus content in the arable layer of the soil in the basic agrarian regions of Ukraine (steppe and forest steppe) has diminished by 15−18 %. Optimisation of the structure of land areas and stabilisation of agricultural landscapes should be based on the soil indicators that ensure conservation of land. It has been substantiated that the contour-meliorative system of land use under the conditions of the development of farming enterprises as the main form of the contemporary land system should be modernised.
