The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

Regional Law No. 608-119 “On methodology of calculation of lease fees for public land”.

This Regional Law establishes that amount of lease fee, fixed by land lease contract, shall be established in accordance with the present methodology in accordance with annual lease fee calculation formula set forth by the Regional Government. The amount of land lease fee shall be fixed within two percent of cadastre values of land plots allotted on lease.

The purpose of this Regulation is to ensure the protection and preservation of the geological deposits located in the northwest corner of the Nordenskiöld Land in Svalbard, including sites with elevated soil temperature and karst phenomena, sites with deposits of fossil archeological imprints, and other areas with specieal scientific value. The protected area covers an area on the northwest corner of Nordenskiöld land between Grønfjorden and Lewin Odden and marine areas 300 meters from the low tide line shore.

These Regulations implement provisions of the Development Facilitation Act, 1995 in relation with a wide variety of matters relative to: the development tribunal of each province as provided for by section 15 of the Act and relative proceedings that may me initiated before each tribunal including: filing of documents; application for the condonation of non-compliance; settlements; duties of tribunal officers; various applications that may be made to the tribunal; award by tribunal of land availability agreements; and service agreements.

These Regulations, made by the Member of the Executive Council of the Northern Province under 27 the Development Facilitation Act, provide procedural rules relative to the setting and reviewing land development objectives by all local government authorities in the province under supervision of the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) as provide for by Chapter IV of the Act. The drafting and adoption of land development objectives shall be done in accordance with guidelines and rules as set out by these Regulations, with special attention to public participation.
