The FAO Legal Office provides in-house counsel in accordance with the Basic Texts of the Organization, gives legal advisory services to FAO members, assists in the formulation of treaties on food and agriculture, for which the Director-General acts as Depositary, publishes legal studies and maintains a database (FAOLEX) of national legislation and international agreements concerning food and agriculture (including fisheries, forestry and water).

Conservation of Agricultural Resources Act: Expansion of the conservation scheme to provide for drilling work regarding stock watering purposes in agriculture (G.N.R. No. 1736 of 1997).

This Notice, made by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture under section 8 of the Conservation of Agricultural Resources Act, amends the Notice on Establishment of a Soil Conservation Scheme by expanding that Scheme to: (a) incorporate the drilling of boreholes for stock watering purposes; (b) include assistance in respect of drilling of boreholes by Government drills and private drilling contractors, borehole casing, pump tests as well as borehole pumping equipment.

These Regulations, made by the Member of the Executive Council of the Free State Province under 27 the Development Facilitation Act, 1995, provide procedural rules relative to the setting and reviewing land development objectives by all local government bodies in the Free State Province under supervision of the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) as provide for by Chapter IV of the Act. The drafting and adoption of land development objectives shall be done in accordance with guidelines and rules as set out by these Regulations, with special attention to public participation.

These Regulations, made by the Member of the Executive Council of the North West Province under 37 the Development Facilitation Act, 1995, provide procedural rules relative to the setting and reviewing land development objectives by all municipalities for their area of jurisdiction in the North West province under supervision of the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) as provide for by Chapter IV of the Act.

Conservation of Agricultural Resources Act: Establishment of an Irrigation Improvement Scheme (G.N. R. 1487 of 1995).

This Notice, made by the Deputy Minister of Agriculture under section 8 of the Conservation of Agricultural Resources Act, establishes an Irrigation Improvement Scheme. The objects of the Scheme shall be to prevent that the soil becomes waterlogged, to prevent salination of the soil, to utilise and protect water resources and to construct waterworks for those purposes, and to provide for payment of subsidies for such purposes. Subsidies may be paid to participants in the Scheme in respect to waterworks in the defined area as classified by this Notice.
