The Kalimantan Forest Partnership comes under the umbrella of the Asia Forest Partnership (AFP). It arose from a commitment made in 2002 at the World Summit in Johannesburg by the Netherlands’ Government to support the AFP’s efforts to promote sustainable forest management in Kalimantan, Indonesia. The Kalimantan activities are promoting collaboration among various parties and stakeholders, and linking improved forest governance in Kalimantan to international trade in Asia and Europe.This report details the lessons learned from the collaborative activities in Kalimantan.

Les décideurs politiques doivent reconnaître l’ampleur et la valeur du secteur du bois énergie et son importance pour un grand nombre de personnes. Les récolteurs et les producteurs doivent bénéficier d’un accès amélioré aux arbres et aux terrains afin de promouvoir une meilleure gestion et de réduire les conflits. Il faut réviser le système des taxes sur le bois énergie de façon à le rendre transparent et pragmatique. Il faut préférer le bois énergie provenant des forêts de plantation et de l’agroforesterie à celui issu d’essences d’arbres de valeur ou menacées.

Indonesia has committed to reducing its emissions from land use, land use change and forestry - by 26% by 2020. One way the country plans to meet this target is by reducing its emissions from deforestation and forest degradation through the REDD+ mechanism. By implementing REDD+, Indonesia will become eligible to receive financial payments based on forest carbon credits.

Cette etude a ete realisee en 1997-98 par le CIFOR en collaboration avec les institutions et les chercheurs camerounais, grace a l'appui financier du DFID du Royaume-Uni. Son objectif general est de compendre les causes qui expliqueraient le taux de deforestation beaucoup plus elevependantla crise economique (qui commenca en 1986) par rapport a ala periode avant le debut de la crise. Le project de recherche a examine les effects de la crise sur les migrations, les systemes de cultures, la division sexuelle du travail et leur incidence sur le couvert forestier.

In order to maintain the high levels of biodiversity and the ecological functions of tropical forest landscapes in South East Asia, production forests need to be managed in a more sustainable way. Numerous initiatives already exist in the form of codes of practice, criteria and indicators, and certification schemes in the countries of South East Asia, but to date such guidelines and standards have been vague and have lacked quantitative targets.
