Estratégia nacional de Conservação da Natureza e Biodiversidade ENCNB 2025 (Portugal)

Manuals & Guidelines
Mayo, 2017
Portugal

Global

Cities function in an efficient, equitable and sustainable manner only when private and public spaces work in a symbiotic relation to enhance each other. Public space generates equality, however in the past decades it has been drastically been reduced. Inadequate, poorly designed, or privatized public spaces generate exclusion and marginalization.

Global

A defining feature of many of the world’s cities is an outward expansion far beyond formal administrative boundaries, largely propelled by the use of the automobile, poor urban and regional planning and land speculation. A large proportion of cities both from developed and developing countries have high consuming suburban expansion patterns which often extend to even further peripheries. Cities need to accommodate new and thriving urban functions such as transportation routes, etc. as they expand.

Can Tanzania feed itself by 2050?: Estimating cereal self-sufficiency to 2050

Reports & Research

Tanzania

Producing adequate food to meet global demand by 2050 is widely recognized as a major challenge, particularly for Africa south of the Sahara, including Tanzania (Godfray et al. 2010; Alexandratos and Bruinsma 2012; van Ittersum et al. 2016). Increased price volatility of major food crops (Koning et al. 2008; Lagi et al. 2011) and an abrupt surge in land area devoted to crop production in recent years (Grassini et al. 2013) reflect the powerful forces underpinning this challenge.

Urban Growth Dynamics in Perth, Western Australia: Using Applied Remote Sensing for Sustainable Future Planning

Peer-reviewed publication
Marzo, 2017

Earth observation data can provide valuable assessments for monitoring the spatial extent of (un)sustainable urban growth of the world’s cities to better inform planning policy in reducing associated economic, social and environmental costs. Western Australia has witnessed rapid economic expansion since the turn of the century founded upon extensive natural resource extraction. Thus, Perth, the state capital of Western Australia, has encountered significant population and urban growth in response to the booming state economy.

Emerging models for voluntary urban ecological stewardship on private property

Journal Articles & Books
Diciembre, 2016

As global urban populations grow, green spaces in cities are under increasing pressure to provide urban habitat and perform important ecosystem services. While public natural areas are typically called upon to provide key habitat in cities, green spaces on private property make up large parts of the urban land base and provide important roles for habitat and ecosystem services that support city function. However voluntary strategies for encouraging ecological stewardship on private property in cities are not well studied.

In response to changing urban food systems, short supply chains have been advocated to meet urban food needs while building more sustainable urban food systems. Despite an increasing interest in urban food supply and the flows of food from production to consumption, there is a lack of empirical studies and methodologies which systematically analyse the actual proportion and nutritional significance of local and regional food supplied to urban markets.

VALORI DEI SUOLI E SCELTE DI INVESTIMENTO NELLA CITTÀ METROPOLITANA DI NAPOLI: LA LOGISTICA COME ASSET STRATEGICO PER LE AREE RETRO-PORTUALI

Peer-reviewed publication
Diciembre, 2016

One of the most challenging projects that the new Metropolitan city of Naples is going to face, concerns the regeneration of the ex-industrial areas located in the eastern zone of the city, characterized by the presence of the port. Among the several reasons of the slowness in which the current program of urban regeneration proceed (NaplEst) is the generic identification of the demand for new functions in an area which plays a strategic role in the metropolitan context.

VALORI IMMOBILIARI URBANI SU AREA VASTA E PARAMETRI MACROECONOMICI

According to the discipline of the Appraisal, the market values of urban property depend on characteristics of location, due to the area in question, and the peculiarities of the individual property. The characteristics of location include the location of the building relative to the center of town, the level of infrastructure, the presence of community facilities and shops, etc.
