Status and trends of mixed farming systems, targeting, data visualization.

Mangroves are highly productive ecosystems that provide important ecosystem services, are strategic allies in carbon capture and storage, conserve different plant and wildlife species, are producers of aquatic species such as crabs and shrimp, and local communities have developed strong economic, cultural and identity ties. Despite their great ecological, economic, and social importance, mangroves are threatened by natural and anthropogenic factors, hence the importance of their constant monitoring.

Worldwide, the large majority of migration occurs internally, with people relocating domestically within their country of origin. From a policy perspective, anticipating such migration decisions can be useful for targeting development programs and interventions, or as a monitoring tool, to capture the migration ‘sentiment’ among specific groups of interest. This paper describes the construction of an internal Migration Propensity Index (i-MPI) for Guatemala and Honduras, building on the existing MPI to predict external or cross-border migration available for these countries.

The Sustainable Intensification of Mixed Farming Systems (SIMFS) is a CGIAR initiative. This initiative ‘aims to provide equitable, transformative pathways for improved livelihoods of actors in mixed farming systems through sustainable intensification within target agroecological and socioeconomic settings. To achieve this, different methodologies, innovations, and practices have been implemented to understand and improve the agroecological/productive conditions to assess a benefit on nutrition, food security and welfare.

Gendered inequities in access to and use of energy sources and technologies affect all five impact areas that CGIAR is contributing to: poverty alleviation, food security and nutrition, climate action, environmental health, and inclusion. This policy note identifies indicators that reflect women’s and men’s agency in the context of energy use and develops a first version of the Women’s Empowerment in Energy Index (WEEI) to measure changes in women’s agency over time.

African swine fever (ASF) is a highly fatal disease of pigs. It is a threat to the pig industry as it lowers production and significantly impacts on livelihoods of small-scale producers, while outbreaks continue to be reported in Africa, Europe, Asia, and more recently in the Caribbean. There are no globally available treatment nor commercial vaccines against ASF.
The most effective measures to control the disease include early detection using rapid diagnostic test and separation of infected animals from healthy ones, usually by culling/disposing affected pigs.

The field monitoring activities within the partner network play a crucial role in understanding the territory, production systems, and socio-economic conditions in communities. This knowledge enables effective support for partners, facilitating better interventions. The close relationship between technicians and producers, backed by a supportive team, fosters shared interventions, considering both local knowledge and technical expertise. Identifying production issues and leveraging community experiences with crops, yields, pests, and diseases further enhances collaboration.

As part of the process to strengthen the capacities of local stakeholders and facilitate the adoption of sustainable practices, from within the context of the Innovahubs a comprehensive training strategy was designed and put into action.

The participation, engagement, and interaction of local actors in the Innovahubs is an essential part of the development and strengthening of the subnational innovation systems, so knowing and understanding the nature, identity and presence, and involvement of each type of actor over time is essential to understand their behavior and motivations to partake in the knowledge and innovation processes. Therefore, this report seeks to update on the actors participating in the relevant activities in the Innovahub, their activities, and the type of relations they have with other actors.
