Context and background: Flooding is one of the most feared consequences of climate change. It is one of the most devastating scourges on the planet today. The year 2010 was marked by a perceptible disruption of the rainfall regime in almost every corner of the globe. In Benin, as in many African countries, the rains of 2010 have caused floods with devastating consequences on all levels (social, economic, environmental, health, etc.).

Context and backgroundThis study focuses on land governance in Mali, particularly customary land in rural areas because of its importance in the development of agriculture, which occupies more than 80% of the population. The Malian State has undertaken reforms in order to secure customary land through their recognition and confirmation. Our study, through a systemic analysis of documentary data and field surveys, consisted in listing these reforms in order to see how they take into account socio-cultural realities. How are these measures perceived by local people? What are their effects?

Kyungu[1] and Kifunyi[2] are revered places for any Chagga family. It is located within a Chagga Kihamba and is believed to be the origin or first settlement of the clan, marked by the presence of a significant tree and traditional Chagga sacred plant—isale. Within the Kyungu and Kifunyi landscapes, one finds a scatter of material remains, including potsherds, bones, bottles and pieces of clothes. These material cultures and local narratives signify spiritual practices, rituals and remembrance ceremonies around the Kyungu and Kifunyi area.

Over the years, Oil spillage has been drastically affecting our ecosystem. Context and backgroundPresently, in developing countries, growth of major cities is characterized by pressure on livelihood activities especially on potential inner-streets which attract variety of users including petty traders to interact on prime spaces hence leading to increased pressure on governing informal activities. En Côte d’Ivoire post-coloniale, de nombreux projets de développement ont été mis en place dans le cadre de l’aménagement du territoire, dont l’Autorité pour l’Aménagement de la Vallée du Bandama (AVB). Il a contribué à l’augmentation de la production énergétique nationale et au développement de la pêche. Mais, ce projet de grande envergure a contraint les villages riverains à un déplacement forcé. Les populations ont reçu en retour la construction d’habitats modernes et des lopins de terre négociés auprès de villages d’accueil.

La commune de Djilor est marquée par une tendance à la dégradation des ressources. Elles sont soumises aux effets des changements climatiques. Ainsi, l’étude de la vulnérabilité de la commune de Djilor aux changements climatiques et stratégies d’adaptation des communautés fait l’objet de cette contribution. La démarche intègre les outils d’analyse de la vulnérabilité et de la capacité d’adaptation aux changement climatique (AVCA) et d’identification des risques au niveau communautaire - adaptation et moyens d’existence (CRiSTAL).

Context and backgroundAccurately integrating different geospatial data sets remain a challenging task because diverse geospatial data may have different accuracy levels and formats. Surveyors may typically create several arbitrary coordinate systems at local scales, which could lead to a variety of coordinate datasets causing such data to remain unconsolidated and in-homogeneous.Methodology:In this study, a piecewise rubber-sheeting conflation or geometric correction approach is used to accomplish transformations between such a pair of data for accurate data integration.
