The blue carbon market in Vietnam: Future development, potential and challenges

Its aim is to provide information on the carbon market in general, but also specifically as it relates to forestry, with a focus on blue carbon. This article departs from past studies by considering the importance of informal institutions for youth participation in the agribusiness sector.

Drivers of maize yield variability at household level in northern Ghana and Malawi

Maize is a staple food, but productivity has stagnated due to limited access to advanced farming methods and knowledge. To promote sustainable agriculture, understanding the factors affecting maize yield at the farm level is crucial. This study used panel data on maize yield and agronomic practices in Northern Ghana and Malawi from 2014 to 2020. Satellite-based environmental variables were extracted at household locations, and Random Forest modeling was used to identify factors influencing maize yield variability.

Price volatility across scales and farmer maneuvering in Lao cassava markets

Lao PDR is undergoing a rapid agrarian transformation, underpinned by a growing commercial production of commodity crops such as cassava by smallholder farmers. The global nature of commodity crop markets increases the exposure of potentially vulnerable smallholder farmers to global price dynamics. We apply a cross-scalar and mixed-methods approach to investigate the role of institutional structures and the global-regional-domestic context in local price formation mechanisms at the farm gate.

On the 11th of June 2023, the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) and the Agricultural Research Center (ARC) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation of Egypt (MoALR) organized a Multistakeholder Workshop titled “To a Better Partnership for Evidence-based Agrifood Policy Research.” The workshop agenda is provided in Appendix 1. About 29 representatives of stakeholders attended the workshop, including high-level policymakers, researchers, and delegates fro various agricultural and food policy organizations.

Like other land-locked countries in Africa’s Sahel region, Mali is experiencing population pressures, more intense and variable drought cycles, and rising insecurity. Extreme temperatures and episodic rainfall are not unfamiliar to Mali but are going to become even more variable and intense as climates shift. These changes in climate are likely to severely impact the Malian economy and society which is extremely dependent on climate-sensitive sectors such as agriculture, livestock, fisheries and forestry.
