The cassava whitefly Bemisia tabaci causes damage in cassava through the feeding and vectoring of plant viruses that cause cassava mosaic and cassava brown streak diseases. This study sought to explore the efficacy of cutting dipping in flupyradifurone for whitefly control and the impact of the mode of application on whitefly parasitism under farmer field conditions. The insecticide treatment significantly reduced adult whiteflies by 41%, nymphs by 64%, and cassava mosaic disease (CMD) incidence by 16% and increased root yield by 49%. The enviro-champs: establishing a framework for a technologically upgraded environmental monitoring network at community scale

The Enviro-Champs initiative was developed as a community driven, citizen science initiative in Mpophomeni township in Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN), South Africa. Over time, the scope of work done and data collected by the Enviro-Champs has expanded. There is now recognition both locally and globally that the Enviro-Champs initiative shows great promise for national and global upscaling. However, several areas within the initiative remain where it could be improved, especially technologically.

Indonesia, the most mangrove-rich nation in the world, has proposed the most globally ambitious mangrove rehabilitation target (600,000 ha) of any nation, to be achieved by 2024 to support multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 1–3, 6, 13 and 14). Yet, mangrove restoration and rehabilitation across the world have often suffered low success rates and been applied at small scales. Here, we identify 193,367 ha (estimated costs at US$0.29–1.74 billion) that have the potential to align with the national mangrove rehabilitation programme.

This technical note outlines a framework for the co-design of inclusive landscape management plans (ILMPs) by local governments and other implementers. The co-design process is iterative, incorporating the perspectives of all stakeholders, piloting, and learning through monitoring, and evaluation. The framework ensures that the co-signed ILMPs are adaptive, one health-sensitive, promote sustainable intensification, and are embedded in local and national governance systems.

The effective and efficient water resource conservation and management necessary to mitigate the crisis requires monitoring data, especially on water quality. This is recognized by Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6, particularly indicator 6.3.2., which requires all UN member states to measure and report the ‘proportion of water bodies with good ambient water quality’.

Crop type mapping is essential to agriculture applications, including yield estimates, crop planting acreage statistics, agricultural market predictions, and land use change analysis that support relevant decision-making. Since 2008, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) has produced the annual Cropland Data Layer (CDL) with 108 crop types and 26 other land-use types for the CONUS Climate Console at 30 meters spatial resolution.

The Gender Equality in Agrifood Systems: Indicator List (GEASIL) is aimed at stakeholders who strive to address gender inequalities in value chains and require effective gender-responsive monitoring systems to track progress and guide decision-making. It is a consolidated list of nearly 400 illustrative indicators, selected and curated from over 1,500 original indicators identified in a scoping review. The list of indicators is not exhaustive and can be used in combination with other searchable indicator databases.
