El objetivo general de este artículo es analizar la incidencia de la concentración, extranjerización y financiarización de los territorios rurales, mediados por el estado uruguayo y liderados por Sociedades Anónimas (SA), en la consolidación de los procesos de acaparamiento de tierras en Uruguay en el siglo XXI. La estrategia de investigación incluyó la georreferenciación de las tierras controladas, la caracterización del despliegue territorial, y la orientación productiva de las SA, y la evaluación de las estrategias institucionales.

Despite the existence of a legal framework defining the right to fair compensation, and notwithstanding the vast literature on transnational and domestic land deals, no theory has been developed so far to allow for a specific analysis of the economics of fair compensation in large-scale land acquisitions (LSLAs), limiting our understanding of the underlying reasons of success or failure of this important legal protection mechanism.

LAND-at-scale (LAS) is a land governance support program for developing countries from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands, which was launched in 2019. The objective of the program is to directly strengthen essential land governance components for men, women and youth that have the potential to contribute to structural, just, sustainable and inclusive change at scale in lower- and middle-income countries/regions/landscapes.

The race for the exploitation of natural resources has brought challenges of different natures, including land conflicts, mainly between investors and the local population. In some cases, the resolution of problems has been unfair due to the lack of legal knowledge and representation to help the vulnerable population. L’économie tchadienne, à l’instar de beaucoup de pays d’Afrique subsaharienne, repose fondamentalement sur le secteur primaire (agriculture et élevage) qui fait vivre 80% de la population tchadienne (Kaou, 2002). Dans les zones rurales, sur les 78% de la population active, 53,9% est constitué par des femmes (FAO et CEEAC, 2021). Selon Oxfam et al. (2013), les productrices rurales représentent 40% de la population tchadienne, mais, elles gagnent moins d’argent que les hommes malgré qu’elles investissent plus dans l’alimentation du foyer.

Questions about how land is governed and controlled in the context of multiple crises are key to debates about fair transitions. How these claims are framed, analysed, and governed, how access to land is organised, and who gets a seat at the table to discuss key decisions are questions of urgent concern from both a fair transitions perspective and a land governance perspective. Academic scholarship defines sectoral corruption, namely water corruption one of the main threats to the development of Central Asia. While applying a rapid review, the purpose of this article is to explore the current state of research on water corruption, its various forms, and typologies in different water sectors (such as water supply and sanitation, irrigation, hydropower, and water resources management). Specifically, the research seeks to answer the question of how water corruption in Central Asia is defined and analyzed in academic sources.

This document includes recommendations to different stakeholder groups (from governments to UN organizations) to operationalize a human rights-based approach to climate justice that affirms the link between climate action and land tenure security of the rural poor.
