This Ordinance makes provision for the establishment of the Land Commission, defines its functions and powers and provides for the allocation of land by the Land Commission to residents and former residents of Pitcairn, Henderson, Ducie and Oeno Islands and the imposition of an annual land tax.The Lands Commission shall identify, mark and register all usable land on Pitcairn Island. The Ordinance prescribes that all existing freehold title to any interest in private land shall be suspended on a date to be established by Order of the Governor and that the Lands Court shall have jurisdiction after that date to allocate title to all land, other than public land and reserves in accordance with provisions of this Ordinance. Every Land Allocation Title granted pursuant to this Ordinance shall create a leasehold estate in land concerned to be held from the Island Council as lessor on the conditions as specified in this Ordinance. The Ordinance also concerns land to be held by absentee landowners.
