There is hereby established a Department of the Government of Canada called the Department of Indian Affairs and Northern Development over which the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development appointed by commission under the Great Seal shall preside. Section 5 establishes that the Minister shall be responsible, inter alia, for coordinating the activities in Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut of the several departments, boards and agencies of the Government of Canada.
