The present Act attempts to facilitate the implementation of those provisions of First Nations’ claim settlements in the Provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan that relate to the creation of reserves or the addition of land to existing reserves. The Act applies in respect of any agreement to which a first nation in Alberta or Saskatchewan and Her Majesty in right of Canada are parties and by which lands are to be set apart as reserves, if: a) in the case of an agreement named in the Schedule, the council of the First Nation has adopted a resolution assenting to the application of this Act in relation to the agreement; b) the agreement provides for the application of this Act. The text consists of 7 sections and 1 Schedule.

A land of vast distances and rich natural resources, Canada became a self-governing dominion in 1867, while retaining ties to the British crown. Economically and technologically, the nation has developed in parallel with the US, its neighbor to the south across the world's longest international border. Canada faces the political challenges of meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care, education, social services, and economic competitiveness, as well as responding to the particular concerns of predominantly francophone Quebec.
