The present Law implements the Federal Act on acquisition of land by persons abroad of 16 December 1983.. Article 1 establishes that the acquisition of land shall be authorized if this serves as principal residence. This Act concerns investment in the South Sudan economy by public, co-operative, mixed, national, private, and foreign sectors in, among other things, agricultural, livestock, mining and tourism. It sets out objects of investment and establishes the Investment Board. Investment shall, among other objects, contribute or geared towards poverty eradication and or environmental protection. The Act also concerns settlement of disputes and allotment of land for projects by the Commissioner after consultation with any other concerned authorities.

This Proclamation provides for a transparent and efficient administration of investment in Ethiopia and mitigating the impacts of environmental pollution relating to investment projects. Any investor shall have the obligation to observe the laws of the country in carrying out his investment activities. In particular, he or she shall give due regard to environmental protection. The provisions of this Proclamation may not be applicable to investments in the prospecting, exploration and development of minerals and petroleum resources. Investments may be made in the water sector.

This Act amends the Land Act: in section 2 by inserting a new definition of “person who is not a citizen of Malawi”; in section 5(1) which restricts the making of a grant of any public land or any customary land to any person who is not a citizen of Malawi; in section 40 on proof of citizenship of Malawi; by adding new sections (24B, 24C and 24D) which place restrictions on the grant of private land to any person who is not a citizen of Malawi.

These Regulations require any alien desiring to reside upon or to occupy any land, or to reside in or occupy any house that is the property of a Tongan subject, to apply beforehand to the Minister for Lands for a permit. The Minister for Lands may, in his or her discretion, issue such permit for a limited period of time.

These Regulations provide for exemption from the provisions of section 45, Land Act, 1965, the beneficiaries of the five Directives of the European Communities on certain rights of establishment on land so as to implement these Directives on accession of Ireland to the European Communities.
