The Cayman Islands were colonized from Jamaica by the British during the 18th and 19th centuries and were administered by Jamaica after 1863. In 1959, the islands became a territory within the Federation of the West Indies. When the Federation dissolved in 1962, the Cayman Islands chose to remain a British dependency. The territory has transformed itself into a significant offshore financial center.

This Act provides principally for the control on the development of land and the planning of development in the Cayman Islands. For this and other purposes, it establishes the Central Planning Authority and the Development Control Board. The Act also concerns acquisition and disposal of land for planning purposes. The Board or the Authority, as the case may be, shall assess and grant permission for proposed development.
Development and Planning (Amendment) Regulations, 2006.
These Regulations amend the Development and Planning Regulations in the Second Schedule which defines development areas in relation with the levying of fees for purpose of the Planning and Development Law.
