Location
Although known to Arab and Malay sailors as early as the 10th century, Mauritius was first explored by the Portuguese in the 16th century and subsequently settled by the Dutch - who named it in honor of Prince Maurits van NASSAU - in the 17th century. The French assumed control in 1715, developing the island into an important naval base overseeing Indian Ocean trade, and establishing a plantation economy of sugar cane. The British captured the island in 1810, during the Napoleonic Wars. Mauritius remained a strategically important British naval base, and later an air station, playing an important role during World War II for anti-submarine and convoy operations, as well as the collection of signals intelligence. Independence from the UK was attained in 1968. A stable democracy with regular free elections and a positive human rights record, the country has attracted considerable foreign investment and has one of Africa's highest per capita incomes.
Mauritius is a parliamentary republic.

Morcellement (Amendment of Schedule) Regulations 2013 (GN No. 20 of 2013).
These Regulations amend the Morcellement Act by repealing the Second Schedule and replacing it by the Schedule to these Regulations. The Schedule specifies processing fees and morcellement fees, including morcellement exclusively for agricultural purposes. fees are based on square metres of land subject to subdivision.

Affidavits of Prescription Act (Suspension of Certain Provisions) Act 2012 (No. 23 of 2012).
This Act amends the Affidavits of Prescription Act by providing for the suspension of sections 3, 4 and 6 to 9 of, and the Schedules to, the principal Act and provides for the circumstance where notice of an application has been published in accordance with section 4(2) of the principal Act and an objection may be made in the manner specified in section 6(1).

Affidavits of Prescription Act.
This Act concerns an affidavit witnessing the acquisition by prescription of immovable property. The Act, among other things: sets out conditions for transcription of affidavit; provides with respect to an application for the transcription of an affidavit of prescription; requires the Conservator of Mortgages to enter in a special register the particulars of every affidavit of prescription received for transcription; provides for procedures of transcription including objections by interested parties; defines effects of transcription.
Land Surveyors (Fees for the Survey of State Lands) (Amendment) Regulations 2013 (GN No. 19 of 2013).
These Regulations amend the Land Surveyors (Fees for Survey of State Lands) by revoking and replacing the Schedule, which specifies fees for surveys, including the survey of an agricultural site.
