The University of Costa Rica (Spanish: Universidad de Costa Rica, abbreviated UCR) is a public university in the Republic of Costa Rica, in Central America. Its main campus, Ciudad Universitaria Rodrigo Facio, is located in San Pedro Montes de Oca, in the province of San José. It is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious institution of higher learning in Costa Rica, originally established as the Universidad de Santo Tomás in 1843. It is also the most important research university in the country, and Central America. Approximately 39,000 students attend UCR throughout the year.

Management of urban voids: context, case and propositions.

The purpose of this review article is to discuss a broaden notion of urban void, in the context of urban sprawl and the urgent need for sustainable land management. To draw a picture about the topic of urban voids, this essay has been divided into two sections. The first part presents a number of concepts that justify a global response of reclaiming urban voids. The second section contains a compilation of case studies of urban void management, whose viability has been possible because innovative urban legislation tools.

The settlements of informal origin in Colombia emerged as an alternative to access housing for the socially and economically vulnerable population due to the limited institutional opportunities to obtain a solution. Thus, the victims of the armed conflict have found in this modality of urbanization a refuge in the city as a result of the forced displacement and the poverty.
