Topics and Regions
I live in Maputo and work for a Mozambican consultancy company specialising in land issues, Terra Firma, which I founded in 2001. I have been working on land issues across Africa & Asia for the last 30 years, and have worked with and for institutions across the non-profit, private and public sectors. I have a particular interest in the formalisation of customary land rights in ways that strengthen and extend tenure security for the rural poor. For the last few years, I and Terra Firma have been mostly involved in developing an independent platform, known as the CaVaTeCo, for documenting land rights in Mozambique and making data and tools available to NGO and private sector partners, and the rural communities with whom they work. We are currently working on a blockchain solution for maintaining this data.

After much planning and preparation, we are looking forward to starting a new land governance project in Mozambique with our partners, Centro Terra Viva. With support from the Land-at-Scale programme, we will be able to provide thousands more Mozambicans with proof of their land rights and further develop the CaVaTeCo platform and the Cadastro Popular.
