Women and girls often risk being left
behind in development, not being fully informed or involved
in decision making about issues that can have a real impact
on their lives. Sometimes, they are already disadvantaged by
cultural and legal norms that affect their rights to
resources. Working together to develop the Nile resource,
the 10 countries involved in the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI)
are making it ‘business as usual’ to ensure gender equality

The main objective of this Economic and Sector Work (ESW) is to identify opportunities for stronger linkages between domestic agricultural supply chains and the tourism sector in the OECS, and to outline priority interventions with potential to strengthen these linkages. Since this topic has been analyzed in a number of studies, the approach for this ESW is not to conduct yet another comprehensive study.

de trabajo de la Corporación Procasur en América Latina, que ha propiciado investigaciones y espacios de intercambio para ahondar en las estrategias, problemas y desafíos que enfrenta
la juventud rural para garantizar su acceso a la tierra, activo fundamental para proyectar sus estrategias de vida y desarrollo en el medio rural.
 

Por razões conhecidas, o sector agrícola tem um papel fundamental na economia moçambicana. Este tema é relevante, por um lado, porque a agricultura é considerada a base de desenvolvimento do nosso país e, por outro, porque as políticas públicas influenciam o comportamento de diversas variáveis da actividade agrária. Moçambique possui condições naturais para, a longo prazo, desenvolver um sector agrário diversificado, dinâmico e sustentável. Existem mais de 36 milhões de hectares de terra arável, dos quais somente 10% estão em uso e, destes, 90% pelo sector familiar (PEDSA, 2011).

In Senegal, concern about large-scale land acquisitions has been growing since 2000. Senegalese agriculture has long relied on small-scale family holdings and extensive agriculture. But the current population growth rate, combined with rapid urban development and natural resources degradation, have inevitably changed the game.

The scale of this trend and its significant impacts on rural transformation and livelihoods make it necessary to further monitor, observe and positively influence such deals wherever possible.
