Beyond fixes that fail: identifying sustainable improvements to tree seed supply and farmer participation in forest and landscape restoration

december, 2019
Global

Growing evidence suggests that constraints to the availability and quality of tree seed can undermine the success of forest
and landscape restoration efforts and the delivery of associated benefits such as mitigating climate change and halting biodiversity loss.
Past experiences to promote tree seed supply have frequently shown limited outcomes over time, partly because of unexpected, deleterious

Eight guide steps for setting up a Climate-Smart Village: A trainer's guide

december, 2019
Global

The training manual presents a step-by-step process of establishing a Climate-Smart Village (CSV), with each step being complemented with learning objectives, session guides, and educational support materials. Additional links were provided for each step to promote further learning for its users. Different forms of visuals such as photos, maps, and graphs make the publication easy to read and thus easy to understand. This is almost a one-stop-shop for implementers to acquire the information, capacity, and other prerequisites necessary for establishing a CSV.

Global guidelines for the sustainable use of non-native trees to prevent tree invasions and mitigate their negative impacts

december, 2019
Global

Sustainably managed non-native trees deliver economic and societal benefits with limited risk of spread to adjoining areas. However, some plantations have launched invasions that cause substantial damage to biodiversity and ecosystem services, while others pose substantial threats of causing such impacts. The challenge is to maximise the benefits of non-native trees, while minimising negative impacts and preserving future benefits and options.

Guideline for agronomy and soil fertility data collection in Ethiopia: National standard

december, 2019
Ethiopia

Recently, recognition has been growing of the
power of data and information for better decisionmaking
and service provision in agriculture. To
ensure good data quality, an agreed standard to
collect, store, and share data along the agricultural
value chain is required.
With this background, the purpose of this guideline
is to provide guidance on standardizing soil and
agronomy data collection and thereby enhance
temporal and spatial data interoperability.

Impact of climate variability on internal migration in the Philippines during 2005 – 2010

december, 2019
Philippines

Climate-migration nexus has been attracting increasing scholarly attention in the last decades. The various manifestations of climate change including extreme events that are expected to get more frequent and more intense, and slow-onset changes that increasingly affect livelihoods in a context of international climate coordination failure add fuel to the fire.

Traditional crops for household food security and factors associated with on-farm diversity in the Mountains of Nepal

december, 2019
Nepal

Traditional crops play an important role in household food security and livelihood needs of mountain communities, while at the same time safeguarding crop biodiversity for future generations. This study aims to analyse socioeconomic, farmspecificagro-ecological and market factors influencing cultivation and maintenance of crop diversity in Nepal. It used sample surveys of 328 households from mountains of Humla, Jumla, Lamjung and Dolakha districts in 2015. The sample survey was supplemented with participatory rural appraisals, field monitoring visits and local stakeholder consultations.
