This working paper uses an online issue mapping approach to explore two research questions: 1) How is human mobility in Jordan represented in local and international social media conversations? 2) What associations between human mobility and climate security-related topics are present in these public debates? Overall, results show diverging agendas between national and international actors, as well as a low prevalence of climate and security related topics, both in terms of absolute frequencies and in relation to the content that garnered most attention in conversations.

This year marks 20 years of implementing the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP), which was broadened under the 2014 Malabo Declaration on Accelerated Agricultural Growth and Transformation for Shared Prosperity and Improved Livelihoods. The 2023 Annual Trends and Outlook Report generates evidence on the implementation of the CAADP/Malabo agenda and thus contributes to the design of the post-Malabo phase of CAADP implementation.

Consideration to gender matters is important for the equity of climate change adaptation programs and effective food security. The overlaying global socioecological emergencies of climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic have simultaneously impacted food security. The study assessed the impacts of climate change and COVID-19 outbreak on food security among Maasai using gender lenses. The paper is a result of mixed-methods research design that mainly relied on interviews, focus group discussion, and questionnaire.

This policy brief examines the consequences of the Russia-Ukraine war on Kenya’s agrifood systems, focusing on its impact on food security and the country’s policy responses to counter the effects of the war. Drawing from official data, scholarly articles, institution reports, and online news sources, this brief encompasses the period from January 2019 to February 2023 to provide a nuanced understanding of the events leading up to and following the conflict.

Vietnamese food systems have experienced a transition process since the late 1980s Đổi mới reforms. This paper examines the historical and ongoing transitions of pork and vegetable networks, using the Multi-Level Perspective (MLP), the Multi-Pattern Approach (MPA) and insights from food systems research. Our findings show that there was a shift from collective and self-subsistent farming to commercial small-scale farming in the late 1980s, and a rapid institutionalisation of smallholders and wet markets in the early 1990s.

Recent global crises have led to diverse impacts across the world’s low- and middle-income regions, reflecting local conditions and differing policy responses. These effects are often compounded by more local shocks and crises, including prolonged conflict and violence, natural disasters, and fragile economic and governance systems. This section examines the impacts of recent food crises to identify both future risks and promising policy options that could improve early warning, immediate response, and resilience building in each region.
