Independent Evaluation of Ethiopia's Land Investment Transformation Programme

General

To support the Government of Ethiopia in the provision of map based land certificates to farmers in four regions and assist them to fully benefit from increased investment and productivity through the development of the rural land market and its supporting operations. The project will be a driver to increasing income by 20% for over 500,000 households. It will also secure land ownership for 6.1 million households, of whom around 70% will be women

Participation and Opportunities for Women Economic Rights (POWER)

General

The Project by the end of 24 months POWER will strengthen the eco-feminist movement to promote and protect the economic rights of marginalised women affected by compulsory land acquisition in four districts in Northern (Nwoya, Amaru) and Western (Hoima and Buliisa) Uganda at a critical time when 300,000 women have been displaced and an additional one million women are at risk of displacement. The project will contribute to the SDG target that all women enjoy equal rights to “economic resources, as well as access to ownership and control over land and other forms of property and natural resources”. As primary beneficiaries 1,000 women will receive legal support and training and awareness raising in women’s rights and alternative livelihoods. These women will share their learning with 6,000 secondary beneficiaries ensuring in excess of 5,380 women are inputting into decision-making affecting their land ownership and livelihoods at local, national and international levels to advocate for policy change and improve access to justice.

LAND RIGHTS FOR VULNERABLE RURAL WOMen AND YOUTH

General

The ‘LAND RIGHTS FOR VULNERABLE RURAL WOMen AND YOUTHS’ will continue to protect the rights of rural women and youths to access land in the project Communities with existing project, in Margibi and Bong counties. The project aims to contribute to secure land tenure for poor and vulnerable rural women and youths, empower them and create more awareness on land legalization in rural communities across 20 project communities including new communities in Margibi and Bong counties. The project target is to ensure that vulnerable rural women and youths enjoy and exercise unrestricted access to land in their respective communities. To achieve the stated objective, the project will work with the Liberia Land Authority (LLA) to ensure smooth implementation. The project will ensure that vulnerable rural women and youths acquire substantial information on their rights to land as well as their rights to inherit real property, specifically land right, and how those land will be manage when it is acquired. This intervention will instill self-confidence amongst youths and women that will permit them to express their experiences and report cases in which they have been marginalised.

Promoting Food Security in Uganda: Advocating for Community access, Utilization and security to land

General

The Karamoja sub region has experienced displacement of poor vulnerable households due to government leasing of public land to new extractive companies and gazettement of public land into forest reserves. This has led many poor and vulnerable households to be displaced. The National Catholic Justice and Peace aims to promote access to food security through building capacity of local communities to advocate for access, use and security of land tenure and other natural resources in the Karamoja region and in Northern Uganda. The project will target 1,500 men, 1,300women, 250 girl's, 250 boys and 100PWDs. NCCJP will identify and raise advocacy issue to national level targeting relevant line ministries and government institutions. This increases project effectiveness and aligns project to national priorities. The national office increases efficiency through harmonization and simplification of programming processes and procedures. The national office will also ensure accountability to CAFOD and the partners at the lower level. Key tasks of NCCJP at the lower level will include spearheading identification of beneficiaries, data collection and training of community based animators/ volunteers/ resource persons. The community groups will be empowered to handle routine monitoring of activities, documentation and reporting to NCCJP.

Expert Advisory Call Down Service - Support to Land Administration Reform

General

To support the Oromia Regional Government Bureau of Land Administration and Use to: a. Identify key areas to support the recent reform underway in the land sector; b. Identify gaps in the current land bureau structure; c. Provide options of restructure that will help effectively implement land sector reform; and d. Explore options for short term land policy adviser/s placement and make recommendations.
