Communal lands are central to the livelihoods of many Tanzanians, particularly to pastoralists and hunter-gatherer groups. But a number of factors can undermine the security of these lands remaining ‘communal,’ in turn threatening the livelihoods of many people and cultures. This brief sets out a new mechanism for strengthening community land rights by securing local tenure through acquiring a Certificate of Customary Right of Occupancy (CCRO).

In the year 2014, the PP has recorded great achievements in terms of revised outcomes. Some unique and strategic approaches employed by the PP are partly the reason for the achievements. This brief is a summary of the key achievements made and the strategies or approaches used in 2014. 

Uttaran in partnership with Manusher Jonno Foundation and CARE has been implementing SALE (Sustainable Access to Land Equality) project funded by European union in three upazilas of Bangladesh. The development goal of this project is to strengthen access to land and property rights for all citizens, especially the poorest segments. Mainly, the project intends to promotion of effective, transparent and accountable land governance practices towards access to equitable land and property rights for the poorest community.

Desde meados de 2013, temos assistido a confrontações militares que, de novo, opõem os protagonistas da guerra civil terminada em 1992. Um clima de agitação, ansiedade e incerteza, suscepơvel de levar a sérias tensões sociais, tem estado a crescer junto das comunidades do Distrito de Palma, nomeadamente da Vila-Sede e povoações circunvizinhas. Estratégias sinuosas e inconsistentes, de comunicação com as comunidades locais, entremeadas de indícios de atropelos à lei, por parte das autoridades governamentais a vários níveis, sobre o processo conducente à construção da Fábrica de Gás Natural Liquefeito, a ser explorado na Bacia do Rovuma, são a principal causa deste clima.

Depois do seu povo, a terra é o recurso mais importante de qualquer país. Nas zonas rurais de Moçambique, vivem 75% da população que possui as actividades agrárias como principal fonte de rendimento. A agricultura contribui com cerca 24% do Produto Interno Bruto (PIB) e mantém uma posição relevante no contributo para o crescimento da economia.

The current Regulation governs Petroleum Operations pursuant to Law n° 21/2014, of 18 August, and establishes the rules for awarding rights to perform the respective activity, with a view to securing that Petroleum Operations , and any infrastructure belonging or held by the right holder or by third parties, used in connection with Petroleum Operations , subject to Mozambican jurisdiction, including foreign flagged mobile infrastructure aimed at performing or assisting, be undertaken in a systematic way and in conditions that allow a coordinated and broad supervision.

This project is to support in the development of the legal framework for the LNG projects

Mozambique currently has one of the highest rates of land concessions throughout Africa. In the coming years, if large-scale land concession grants to private investors are not carefully controlled, the amount of land still held and managed by rural Mozambicans will decrease significantly, with associated negative impacts on already impoverished rural communities.

The main objectives for TNA were to identify prevailing perception and attitude among selective stakeholders who were responsible for providing services to target groups through distinguishing their needs in providing expected services. The specific objectives of this TNA were to identify the training needs of the GoB Land Officials (Upazila and union level), Union Parishad and Vhumi committees for delivery of service effectively and efficiently for the SALE project.
