The agricultural sector is a key driver of climate change and biodiversity loss and is in urgent
need for transition. NATURE+, a large-scale CGIAR agricultural development initiative, aims
to support small-holder farmers in shifting agrifood systems to more sustainable pathways by
adopting nature-positive solutions. With gender equality at its core, it is crucial to enhance
women’s opportunities and to identify any barriers to the adoption of nature-positive practices.

This report provides an update on the status, as of December 31, 2022, of the plant genetic resources for food and agriculture (PGRFA) collections maintained by the eleven CGIAR Centers that signed Article 15 agreements with the Governing Body of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (Plant Treaty) in 2006.

Increasing demand for water juxtaposed with shrinking supplies will require a transfer of water resources out of agriculture into the domestic, industrial, and ideally environmental sectors. To examine the potential of policies to facilitate a release of water from agriculture, this paper uses IFPRI’s Computable General Equilibrium Model with a water extension, CGE-W, to assess the impact of commodity taxes on two highly water consumptive crops, rice and sugarcane, on water consumption and the overall economy.

This exploratory study relied on secondary data review relating to inclusive governance in agri-food systems, as well as an analysis of Bangladesh’s contemporary agriculture, food systems, climate change, conservation, and natural resource management policies and interventions. Based on the literature review, key practices/initiatives were mapped against an analytical framework consisting of seven dimensions of inclusive governance, namely representation, participation, capacity and skills, accessibility, financial resources, knowledge system, and innovation.

The Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) project aims to enhance access to climate information services and validated climate-smart agriculture technologies in Africa, to help these countries strengthen the resilience of their agricultural sectors to the threat posed by climate change. Strengthening the capacity of next users, particularly agricultural extension and advisory service (EAS) providers who work to support farmers in Senegal and five other target countries, is crucial for achieving this goal.

The negative impact of hydro-meteorological hazards on agricultural sector oftentimes leads to food insecurity, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). It is, therefore, incumbent upon policymakers to formulate appropriate strategies that aimed at minimizing the effects of hydro-meteorological hazards on communities and the economies. Therefore, there is a need for availability of timely and tailored climaterelated knowledge, information and products that support decision making in an effort to reduce climaterelated losses and enhance benefits.

Nearly 90% of farming households in Senegal rely on rainfed agriculture; in recent years, climate change-induced disruptions to rainfall patterns and the ensuing depletion of water resources have had adverse effects on agricultural production, livelihoods, and food security. Recent studies recommend further assessment of the viability of and potential for Flood Residual Water Cultivation (FRWC) as an alternative growing strategy (i.e., to supplement or extend natural growing seasons).

This legacy document is intended to capture the key outcomes and highlight the impact of the CCAFS East Africa regional program over the past decade.

There are few studies that rigorously assess how agricultural and nutrition related interventions enhance resilience and even fewer that incorporate a gendered dimension in their analysis. Mindful of this, we address three knowledge gaps: (1) Whether agricultural interventions aimed at diversifying income sources and improving nutrition have sustainable impacts (on asset bases, consumption, gender-specific outcomes and women’s empowerment, and on diets) that persist after the intervention ends; (2) whether such interventions are protective when shocks occur?

The Digital Innovation in Agriculture workshop was centred on bolstering digital capabilities within Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and nurturing collaborations with Disruptive Agricultural Technology start-ups. The event, held in Pune, convened FPOs, digital innovators, and experts to explore digital needs, promote digital innovation awareness, and foster FPOinnovator partnerships.

The ICTforAg+ India satellite event, hosted on December 19, 2023, at T-Hub in Hyderabad, was a convergence of professionals dedicated to advancing inclusive and responsible digital innovations in agri- food systems. Jointly organized by the Government of Telangana, CGIAR initiative on Digital Innovation (DI), and The Agri Collaboratory, the event offered a dynamic platform for 72 participants, including Agritech startups, NGOs, private and government sectors, and academia, to immerse in a vibrant local digital ecosystem and establish global connections.
