Gendered dimensions of improved agricultural practices in farm households in a coastal polder of southwest Bangladesh

Dezembro, 2022
Bangladesh

Gender disparities persist in farm households in the climate-vulnerable coastal Bangladesh. Keeping this view in mind, this study explored the intrahousehold gendered dimensions in some coastal polders of southwest Bangladesh. A stratified random sampling method was employed to select 350 farm households from the polder 30 under Khulna district. Different quantitative descriptive and statistical techniques have been followed here.

Understanding women farmers’ empowerment in climate- stressed smallholder systems: Evidence from a climate-smart cropping system intensification initiative in Indian Sundarbans

Dezembro, 2022
India

Climate change poses a profound threat to the wellbeing and sustainability of farming and farm-based livelihoods in fragile socioecological systems. Climatic challenges to farming have often been addressed by diverse forms of sustainable intensification that aim to maximize farm outputs and resource-use efficiency through climate-smart innovations. However, climate change poses specific challenges to women farmers, who play important roles in agri-food systems, often in the absence of their male counterparts who recursively migrate from the climatically challenged regions.

From seeds of change to harvesting equality: Women in India’s agro-ecology based agri-food systems

Dezembro, 2022
India

The Indian agricultural system is undergoing rapid degradation because of climate-induced shocks and stressors. As a result, there have been endeavors among governments, civil society organizations and researchers to embrace transformative approaches toward the agri-food system. Within this context, agroecology has emerged as a comprehensive methodology that aims to reshape food systems by harnessing the interconnectedness between indigenous knowledge, local conservation practices, social capital and strategies for adapting to the climate crisis.

Women’s empowerment, productivity, and food security: Nationally representative panel data analysis in Malawi

Dezembro, 2022
Malawi

This paper provides new evidence on the relationship between intrahousehold dynamics, agricultural productivity, and dietary diversity using a nationally representative panel household dataset in Malawi (two waves: 2019 and 2021, with 5,067 female and male respondents per wave). We used the Abbreviated Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index (A-WEAI) indicators, complemented by intrahousehold dynamics in access to extension services and technology awareness and adoption. Panel data were analyzed using household fixed effect models.

Gender-responsive nature-positive solutions for resilient agri-food systems

Dezembro, 2022
India

Nature-positive solutions (NPS) seek to address the negative effects of climate change, restore biodiversity, and sustainably manage land and water resources through strategies implemented at farm and community levels, drawing on both traditional and scientific knowledge, while ensuring that agriculture stays within planetary boundaries. Given gender differences in livelihood roles, control over resources, and influence over livelihood decisions, men and women have different needs from and preferences for nature-positive solutions.

Rwanda smallholder agriculture commercialization survey: Overview using selected categorical variables

Dezembro, 2022
Rwanda

This report provides a comprehensive statistical overview of agricultural household data collected by IFPRI from a smallholder commercialization survey in late 2022. An Alliance-led technical process resulted in two ministries adopting guidance for sustainable agriculture in Colombia´s fragile moorlands

Dezembro, 2022
Global

In Colombia, the Alliance led a technical process to formulate the Inter-ministerial Resolution 249 of 2022. This is a public policy document of great importance for guiding the response to agricultural activities prohibited by the Law 1930 of 2018 but continue to be carried out in delimited moorlands, generating significant negative impacts on those ecosystems. This document requires public institutions working in these ecosystems to adjust their programs, projects and actions to comply with these new regulations.

Guidelines for measuring gender transformative change in the context of food security, nutrition and sustainable agriculture

Dezembro, 2022
Global

These Guidelines include step-by-step guidance to formulate qualitative and quantitative indicators of gender transformative change to help gender experts and food security, agriculture and nutrition programme specialists in their efforts to design, implement, monitor and evaluate gender transformative interventions. These indicators should be distinctive from and a complement to other reach, benefit and empower indicators intended to contribute to gender equality outcomes in food security, nutrition and sustainable agriculture.

An estimated 11,000 rice and cassava farmers in Cambodia are using agricultural advisories based on the seasonal forecast with support of Local Technical Agro-climatic Committees

Dezembro, 2022
Cambodia

An estimated 11,000 rice and cassava farmers from 23 Agri-cooperatives
in Battambang and Kampong Speu provinces used the agroclimatic
advisories in their planning and decision-making for better risk
management. DeRISK SE Asia introduced the Local Technical
Agroclimatic Committee (LTAC) approach in Cambodia to co-develop
seasonal agroclimatic advisories based on seasonal forecasts with
different type of stakeholders in two target provinces. The advisories
were disseminated through multiple channels, including printed

Grid-connected solar irrigation in Nepal - exploring opportunities and identifying hurdles

Dezembro, 2022
Nepal

The Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) offers subsidies for off-grid Solar Irrigation Pumps (SIPs) to promote sustainable irrigation practices. The utilization of these off-grid SIPs is low due to irrigation demand patterns. The potential for gridconnected solar irrigation is increasing as Nepal's national utility grid network grows. Nevertheless, despite net metering regulations, off-grid SIPs are not integrated into the national grid.

Climate Risk Management for Agriculture Extension Curriculum Consultative Workshop in Ghana

Dezembro, 2022
Ghana

The Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) project aims to enhance access to climate information services (CIS) and validated climate-smart agriculture (CSA) technologies in Africa, to help these countries strengthen the resilience of their agricultural sectors to the threat posed by climate change. Strengthening the capacity of next users, particularly agricultural extension and advisory service (EAS) providers who work to support farmers in Ghana and five other target countries, is crucial for achieving this goal.
