Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA): Environment and Social Management Plan (ESMP) for Pilot of Climate Smart Agricultural Innovations and Climate Information Service Technologies in Senegal

Dezembro, 2022
Senegal

This Environment and Social Management Pan (ESMP) has been developed by the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) to clarify (i) the measures that will be taken during the implementation of project activities to eliminate or offset adverse E&S impacts, or to reduce them to acceptable levels; and (ii) actions needed to implement these measures during the implementation of the Accelerating Impact of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) project activities in Senegal.

An enabling environment for the national flour blending policy: A food systems analysis

Dezembro, 2022
Kenya

A national flour blending policy is about to be implemented in Kenya. This requires maize flour (the country’s main staple) to be blended with at least 10 percent of either one or a composite of traditional crops, such as sorghum and millet.1 The blending ratio is expected to increase gradually, with the goal of ultimately reaching 30 percent. The policy envisages achieving several goals. The first is to improve the nutritional quality of maize flour: sorghum and millet (and other candidate blending crops) have micronutrient characteristics that are absent in maize.

Environment and Social Risk Management (ESRM) Guide-AICCRA Additional Financing (P181150)

Dezembro, 2022
Global

This Environmental and Social Risk Management (ESRM) Guide has been updated for the Additional Financing (AF) of the Accelerating Impact of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) project (P181150). This updated ESRM Guide will be used for the Parent Project (P173398) and the AF (P181150). This Guide is for use by CIAT and all the research institutions receiving Grants under the AICCRA-AF project. Institutions or entities that carry out sub-contracted activities for the research institutions will also be required to comply with the requirements of this Guide.

Protocol for Participatory on-Farm experiment for Aquaculture Homestead Pond

Dezembro, 2022
Malaysia

The Asian Mega-Deltas is one of the CGIAR’s research initiatives which aims to create resilient, inclusive and productive deltas, which maintain socio-ecological integrity, adapt to climatic and other stressors, and support human prosperity and wellbeing, by removing systemic barriers to the scaling of transformative technologies and practices at community, national and regional levels.

Enabling environment and digital technology use readiness in agriculture in the Zambezi riparian countries

Dezembro, 2022
Global

This study sought to understand the extent of digital technology usage across Zambezi riparian countries and analyze whether there is a conducive enabling environment for digital technology upscaling for climate adaptation. The study thus, examined the relationship between having a better enabling environment and the use of digital technologies in agriculture.

Mapping the design and implementation of seed sector regulation: The case of Uganda

Dezembro, 2022
Uganda

An enabling environment with clear, inclusive, and transparent seed laws, policies, regulations, and guidelines is the foundation for an efficient and effective seed sector. If well designed and implemented, the legal and regulatory framework can facilitate market diversification, supervision and quality control of seed and other forms of planting material, promotion of private sector participation, farmer access to improved seed varieties, reduced barriers for the movement of seeds across borders, and food security.

Spatiotemporal characterization of droughts and vegetation response in Northwest Africa from 1981 to 2020

Dezembro, 2022
Global

Drought has become one of the most devastating natural risks of agricultural production and the environment in almost all climate regions. Thus, understanding the spatiotemporal characteristics of drought and its associated impacts is crucial in drought early warning management and adaptation efforts. In this study, we used the 3-month Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI-3) obtained from Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Station data (CHIRPS) to investigate the space–time characteristics of drought conditions.

Herd health management training manual for animal health care workers

Dezembro, 2022
Kenya

Objectives of the manual:
i. To provide farmer trainers/facilitators with relevant knowledge and skills to identify and manage pig diseases, pests/parasites for improved productivity and marketing of pigs and pig products.
ii. To refresh trainers’ and farmers’ knowledge and skills to diagnose and manage important animal diseases, pests/parasites affecting pig productivity.
iii. To provide trainers with knowledge and skills on safe handling and use of veterinary drugs, vaccines and acaricides to ensure food safety and environment conservation.

Climate Risk and Vulnerability (CR&V) assessment for climate services: Rice production and value chain, Ayeyarwady Delta, Myanmar

Dezembro, 2022
Myanmar

As part of the CGIAR initiative Asian Mega-Deltas, a scoping study was completed by the end of 2022 to prioritize key delta-oriented production systems and value chains in Myanmar's Ayeyarwady Delta (Gonsalves et al. 2022). Rice, rice-fish and pulses production systems and value chains were selected based on a set of criteria including production, economic and nutritional value, climate change impact, and potential benefit of climate services with specific attention to the role of women and smallholders.

State of Index-Based Crop Insurance Interventions for Smallholder Farmers and Agribusinesses in East Africa

Dezembro, 2022
Global

This review of index-based agricultural insurance for the Climate Resilient Agribusiness for
Tomorrow—CRAFT (https://crafteastafrica.org/) project was part of a wider effort to strengthen
understanding in the enabling environment for scaling in CRAFT interventions. The findings can be
used to design an appropriate agricultural insurance intervention in future.
Climate-smart crop insurance is one of the interventions that was proposed in the project.
